Not really strange to me, a lot of them are created with the absolute ideal female or male characteristics projected by society's standards anyway. Also, the human brain is "programmed" to recognize human faces and bodies, if something is well enough drawn with human characteristics, it's only natural to find it attractive in some way.

Yes! I find this to be very problematic these days. Take Strike Witches for example. It would be a great series, but they for some reason, feel the need to obsess with panty shots. What's the deal with having so many panty shots of a 14 year old girl like Miyafuji? Is that necessary?

And there are so many times, in so many animes, where these girls are getting undressed in their high school or middle school lockers, or at an onsen, or a public bath, and there will always be the: "Oh, your boobs are so much bigger!" moments, and they grope each other! Why? I mean, the scene is shot IN a high school locker room. What is your thought process anime creator? There's no way straight girls just latch on to each other's boobs like that. Get real, man.

'Sigh' -- Strike Witches...

Never have I felt so conflicted for liking a series.... The characters were so cute, the story was genuinely interesting, and the action scenes were quite fun to watch at times. Why, oh why did they need to focus on their panties so much!!! All they had to do was tone it down just a little. Give the girls some skirts and maybe just add a little more modesty.

I feel like its a great show I can never recommend to anyone.... Without being misunderstood or looked at with raised eyebrows, at least.

anime characters are drawn to be attractive, that's why people find them attractive.

as for the age thing... that doesn't really bother me. want to know why? because drawings don't have ages. they're not real. and if you obsess over such things, then you have issues.

Yes they are. The vast majority of anime characters are in high school or middle school. Though, that's not what I like, my favorite girls are all adults. (With the exception of Aya, who transforms from school kid to adult in Tenjou Tenge.)

Really, you're saying the vast majority of anime characters... no way. Maybe the ones you're watching, and perhaps it leans that way with the current styles and the stuff they're airing on CR, but really man the vast majority of anime characters?
Even when I think back to the 80s stuff I have, Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair- all full of sexy ladies- in their 20s or 30s, and those aren't obscure titles they're huge franchises that still sell. The biggest franchises of all like Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell- all their main characters are in their 20s, 30s, and 60s even. I'm not going to bore you to death with a huge list, but surely you've seen more anime than just what they're airing on here?
I stay away from stuff like Non Non Biyori because it's about young schoolgirls just doesn't appeal. After 10 minutes of Vividred Operations I wanted to stab my eyes out. They've become much more sexualized than they used to be. There's a girl the same age as those Vividred girls in distress in several of the Dirty Pair movies, and she usually wears a long dress and has a teddy bear.... how things have changed!

It is BECAUSE I have seen so much anime, that I know that the majority of anime characters are high school and middle school kids. I've been watching for 25 years, ever since I was a child. Back in the 80's with children like Goku in Dragonball and Gohan in DBZ, The Ronin Warriors and Sailor Moon, all of which were children and teens. For every Dirty Pair and BGC (Awesome animes, BTW), there are a dozen animes like Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist, where the main characters are children and teens. I've seen over 1200 animes, and I can tell you about 1000 of them have young lead characters. It's not just Moe, Ecchi, Shounen anime that have young characters, but animes focused squarely for adults have them, too.

Perhaps you don't realize, many people don't, because the characters behave so maturely and are drawn so maturely, but many of these characters are still kids in the most serious styles of anime. I've known plenty of people who never even realized characters like Yagami Light and Lelouch Lamperouge were supposed to be 17 year olds. Gantz, the benchmark for adult gruesome anime, is headlined by a 10th grader.

Trust me, the vast majority of anime is headlined by young teenagers. It's not just a certain type of anime.

The features in real life would be disturbing, but they do look more or less human like and I think the body types reflect what's considered attractive for the most part (by mainstream U.S. standards anyway). As for the age thing, the age of consent In Japan is lower than the U.S.(not sure if op lives here), so they have a different idea of what's considered underage.

Selection bias. If you have to go back 30 years for examples it's not helping your case, especially when half the cast of Bubblegum Crisis and the entire cast of Dirty Pair were teenagers. They might've looked older, but... yeah...

The ratio of younger-to-older characters (of importance) has got to be at least 5-to-1, and that's being gentle.

Heck no, it's not strange. I mean, have you seen Usui Takumi from Maid-Sama? *swoons nonchalantly*

...well, it might be, but who cares? it's your opinion, a lot of people share the same perspective, just keep living your life with your opinions. i know it's cliche, but just ignore those who think you're weird just because of an opinion.

You're over-thinking this, of course anime characters would look disturbing in real life, there's a reason why they're animated and not drawn close to realism. They are drawn to appease our eyes (in most situations) hence the reason of having big eyes, huge tits, slender body, etc., but of course since it's animated, the features are a bit exaggerated but not taken as seriously like it would've been in real life. Think of Patrick for example, seeing him in real-life form would look rather creepy. Why one finds anime characters attractive is a question you should be asking yourself.

Thanks a lot for the nightmare fuel.

It's called 2D Complex. It's becoming more & more common every day.

What scares me is that I know shotacon is insanely immoral, yet every time I encounter a series with a cold, violent, adult-minded child with a pretty face, that usually ends up being the one I look for fanart of or want to ship.
