I'm looking at all the antonyms of strange in the thesaurus and I don't want to be any of them.

Guess I'm safe.

After talking with my psychologist friend, it seem that it is a lot more complex than one would think. Summarizing/paraphrasing what she said, 'For the most part, the images are more like the foundation of some idea; when we visualize something, what we 'see' in our head is neither the actual image nor a view of its most notable features, but a mixture of the two because our brain does some subtle/subconscious projection to what we 'see' in our head. Concerning cartoons, it is actually quite normal for most people to have had a sort of 'crush' or feeling of attraction to a character they saw in the show because they are seeing that character as a person with attractive traits xyz.' Apparently this is most common for kids since they have a much greater imagination and suspension of disbelief; allowing them to perceive these as people that could even exist in the real world and not simply characters or figments of another's imagination.

Adding my own opinion, I think most blondes in anime are attractive/sexy, but in real life I really don't like the look of blonde hair at all (from a strictly physical attractiveness perspective, I am not shallow I swear! lol) So I feel that just because you might find something attractive in anime, doesn't mean you find it attractive in real life. Also, I find the 'pedophile' or 'underage' argument to be extremely unsubstantiated and hypocritical. Physical attractiveness and such is based on LOOKS so if someone finds an anime chick attractive, 'but on no they are 12 I am a pedophile'. So what? If the same exact character was aged as 23 all of the sudden not a pedophile? That is stupid to me, it is the LOOKS that matter, not the made-up age given to the character. Even then, as I said before, liking characters that look like 'little girls' in anime doesn't mean you like 'little girls' in real life. Sorry for the rant, I just hate the 'logic' people use: liking anime => mot likely pedophiles/adult babies. Too many off-base stereotypes... Also, you are literally being stupid if you think 'having real girlfriends/boyfriends' makes your opinion correct/better; not only are you showing us that you think: finding anime character attractive = no real life girlfriend/boyfriend (as if those are somehow mutually exclusive), but you are also acting like asses to those of differing opinion by 'laughing' at their opinions/ideas without providing a reason why they are 'wrong'. Its fine, we all have different views, but we should be discussing them and trying to understand one another so that we can mutually benefit from the discussion. We shouldn't be acting like children and saying, 'that opinion is dumb, I have a real life". That really doesn't help anyone. Second rant over

Because our brains perceive high and low resolution separately, and we deem attraction through low resolution, or in other words, contrasts.

I am not the most attractive man in the world. That is not why I chose to use my own face as an example. I use my own face, because 1. It's easier for me to work with, and 2. I don't like using other peoples photos without their consent.

The higher the contrasts the more it becomes evident what our brains are really picking up, and what it chooses to ignore, or set as "not important". This is for the same reason that when we're in life threatening situations there's simply too much information that needs to be processed simultaneously. Subconsciously, our brains deem what's important through low resolution.

And anime characters represent those low resolutions. Even their personalities are highly contrasted. An example of a highly contrasted personality would be Yin from Darker Than Black who is always stoic and quiet. Her personality is one-dimensional. And that is something that our brains also perceive in low resolution in real life.

But... I think it might be a mental problem or something to like something that isn't real, in this case an Anime character, in a sexual way. It might just be and obviously this is my opinion... but I find it wrong and kind of want to hit the people who give up real women for 2d girls on the back of the head NCIS style.

why do you want to hit them? they are not doing anything wrong, so why do you feel like hitting them? there are some people that like 2D girls more than real (3D) girls, it's not something that you could do something about, in the same way that you can't do anything against gays.
all those anti-gay arguments are just retarded, they are basically saying no, because they don't like it.
so is there a real reason behind it, or do you hit them with the same reason as the anti gay people " I don't like it".?

You misunderstand me I think, also I have no idea how this turned into an anti-gay argument especially since I completely support homosexual relationships and marriage. I'm completely fine with people liking any image of an Anime character, whether it is animated or not. I just think if you are sexually attracted to it too the point of doing something like... marrying a 2D character... then I would just put it as a mental problem. But that is it, I won't go past saying, to myself at that, that it is a mental problem, I know everyone is different and has their own tastes, and I am definitely not one to bash someone with mental problems given my sister is mentally handicapped. Also I use the term 'hit' loosely and also did say NCIS style.

You want to hit me?

Again only in NCIS style.

NCIS Stylye, aka Gibbs slap, is a slap on the back of the head to get you back on track. You know the same thing teachers did when you were not paying attention in class, or was that just me?

in reply to the first post:

let's get one thing straight first; no matter how sane or normal a person is, they won't be only attracted to someone who is 18 and over. they will feel sexual attraction towards any person of any age who has begun puberty; as puberty is the start of the development of secondary sex characteristics; that may be 13, 15 or later. But you can't put an age on sexual attraction, a person is not a pedophile just because he/she's attracted to someone who is aged 13; people in society misuse the term pedophile just because the law says it's illegal to have sex with anyone under 18.

the definition of pedophilia is the sexual attraction to a person who has not entered puberty yet.

That picture of that big breasted anime character you've shown is clearly a woman who has gone through puberty and back. Nobody can have that breast size without puberty. she might be 13 or 12, I don't know how old she is, but that doesn't make you a pedophile if you're attracted to her since she obviously already finished puberty.

It isn't strange to be attracted to anime characters; as they represent the ideal characteristics of a human. tall, slender, symmetrical legs, etc.

Male characters tend to display feminine features such as big eyes, small oval face and shiny hair which are really sexually attractive to whoever's attracted to men.

Strange or not, I love them, no interest in the 3rd dimension at all. Why do people care so much about whether something they like is strange or not? If you like it you like it and that's all there is to it.and in the end, whether it's strange or not all depends on each person's opinion.

What about people that find inanimate objects attractive. @_@ I think there is a difference to finding something sexy, and something you wanna have sex with.

Its like saying if it's strange to find a car very attractive and amazing and you will start to hump your own car.

That can be inanimate object too. Most of my friends likes inanimate object such as guns, cars, tanks, airplanes, and bunch of other craps that inanimate object. THEY DO THE SAME SHIT. THEY FIND IT ATTRACTIVE.

I don't really care about that all. Do whatever you like.

I have a friend that's a car fanatics. He's like always talking about cars like if it's their WAIFU. I don't talk about shit about his *waifu* car.

In the end, I don't think it's strange to find an anime characters sexy or ANYTHING.

Just a note on the "being tricked into paedophiles" thing you have to realise that there are many countries in Europe and Asia where the legal age of consent is below 18. 13-16 is the average spread in Europe.
