Has the last 2 seasons(Summer/Fall) been an utter disappointment?

I thought Spring 2013 was seriously stacked(Attack on Titan, Flowers of Evil, Chihayafuru 2, Gargantia, My Teenage Romantic Comedy Snafu, Oreimo 2, Severing Crime Edge).

Summer was ok, Fall was downright craptastic and winter 2013/2014 doesn't look too good either. Has Japan finally run out of steam?

I know my taste isn't in the majority here, I prefer the more serious titles. I feel like like the animation studios have gotten quite lazy in the last several years.

Let's face it - Spring 2013 will go down in history as perhaps the best single season that introduced new animes. I will be beside myself if any season in the future can equal it, much less surpass it. For now I'm looking for season 2 of Psycho-Pass, Attack on Titan & Flowers of Evil.

Fall was better than Spring IMO:

Kill la Kill
Non Non Biyori
Nagi no Asukara
Log Horizon
Gundam Build Fighters
White Album 2
Outbreak Company
Little Busters: Refrain
Magi S2

There were also a bunch of fairly fun shows like Kyousogiga, Yozakura Quartet, Noucome, Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, etc

Spring really only had Shingeki as the 'breakout' show, but for many people who read the manga it wasn't THAT special. Aku no Hana did terribly in sales, but at least it increased interest in the manga. However, a second season is pretty unlikely though. If your preference is more 'serious' shows then Fall is somewhat lacking but for people who like other genres Fall has a lot more to offer than Spring did.

I do agree that Winter has so far been completely lackluster though.

Looking back at last year, spring was indeed an epic season. It had Attack on Titan, Gargantia, The Devil is a Part-Timer, Chihayafuru 2, Flowers of Evil, and Oregairu, which are six of this year's best (and I have only had time to watch three of these since I need to watch stuff that appeals to me even if they aren't top-shelf material).

Summer was a letdown of sorts, but it still had Attack on Titan, which of course will boost any season. Other than that, only Silver Spoon and Free! can be considered stuff that can compare to the juggernauts of spring. It was filled with more slice-of-life shows that in any recent season that I could remember.

As for the fall, it was lacking in quality as in the stuff that would give Attack on Titan a run for its money, but it definitely had the quantity, certainly having more great shows than the spring and summer seasons even if there wasn't that one masterpiece. Again, that's just my opinion, but in now way were these seasons disappointments considering how stacked spring was.

Nope. Summer and Fall kicked Spring's ass. The only Spring series to get over an 8 from me was Attack on Titan and that was only because of its second half that aired in the Summer. The first half isn't bad, but it is far from special as well.

Summer had numerous 9/10s for me, as did the Fall, and the Fall had the only series I gave a 10/10 to in 2013.

Srping wasn't a bad season, just not as good as Summer and Fall.

Non Non Biyori is a huge contender for AOTY against Shingeki no Kyojin. It was 2nd only to Shingeki on 2ch and it was #1 on 4chan, as well as #1 on the ATX subscriber polls.

If I had a CR point for every "anime is dying" thread...

I would have a lot more useless CR points.

I thought spring 2013 was largely a letdown, although it was still plenty of fun. Fall beats it in my book though, with Kyousougiga, The Eccentric Family, Nagi no Asukara, Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta, and the second cour of Monogatari 2nd Season, among others. Summer also had Sunday Without God and Genshiken Nidaime.

So... spring was definitely fun. But I thought the end of fall was much more fulfilling.

It's really unfair to judge a new season when we're still waiting on a bunch of first episodes, but I also think we've got some good stuff starting like Chunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren, Engaged to the Unidentified, Nobunagun, and Noragami. While Nisekoi, World Conquest Zvezda Plot, and Wizard Barristers especially have yet to air.

And we've got Ufotable's new adaptation of Fate/Stay Night to look forward to later this year.

The really good stuff will land where it lands when it lands, last year it just happened that several landed in fall 2012 and overlapped with early 2013, which was a bit like a bumper-crop of awesome. Chihayafuru 2 especially was only barely supplanted as my best anime that aired during 2013 by Monogatari 2nd Season at the last possible moment.

Different tastes will differ, though. Such is life.

Anyway, for more on what I watched in 2013 and what I thought about it, if you wanted for reference:

Going to add one more for the winter. I quite liked the premier episode for "The Pilot's Love Song" which seems like it might be a fun and enjoyable series.

Summer 2013 and Winter 2013 were probably the weakest seasons for me over the last year. Fall and Spring were pretty awesome though. And Winter 2014 I think is trumping them all.

I'm picky though, and am only basing this on anime titles that I personally enjoyed.
