http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/01/09-1/new-pretty-guardian-sailor-moon-anime-set-for-july-2014

As noted in the link above the date is now pushed to July 2014. It's the third delay but the project's still alive. A key factor to the delays has been between the creator and Toei who wants still a family all ages anime while the mangeka wants to make it a direct manga translation which was darker and more mature (think of animes like Full Metal Alchemist that got 2 versions with the second being closer to the manga once it was completed, or some that go to OVA like Negima and Kenichi due to the anime versions being edited for content or cut short).

So here's hoping to the anime-will update more as it comes along!

There is some more info on the anime finally out at http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/02/27/more-staff-of-new-sailor-moon-anime-revealed where some of the new info includes:

-The staff who will be joining director Munehisa Sakai and series composition writer Yuji Kobayashi have been revealed. And, while there are no character design previews yet, we now know that animator Yukie Sako (chief animation director on Majestic Prince) will be responsible for the Senshi's latest look.

Gatchaman Crowds art directors Takashi Kurahashi and Yumi Hosaka will be working in that capacity for Sailor Moon. Yasuharu Takanashi jumps magic girl series from Pretty Cure to Sailor Moon for music duties.

The previously announced Munehisa Sakai worked on the One Piece TV anime series (2006-2008), One Piece Film: Strong World (2009), and Suite PreCure♪ (2011-2012), and the eighth installment of the PreCure TV series. Yuji Kobayashi's work could previously be found in Ultraman Mebius, Suite PreCure♪ and Saint Seiya Omega.

That's not a bad crew as Majestic Prince is one of my sleeper anime favourites from last year. Have Precure staff on hand too looks good since Pretty Cure is one of the many other magical girl series to come since Sailor Moon debuted.

Hurrah!

The Sailor Moon Crystal cast got announced at http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/04/27/sailor-moon-crystal-anime-cast-introduced

-It's going to be a mix of old and new it looks:

Kotono Mitsuishi (also known as Evangelion's Misato, One Piece's Bao Hancock and recently Gundam Build Fighter's Rinko Iori) reprises the role of Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon. She's joined by a renewed group of Inner Senshi that includes Hisako Kanemoto (Squid Girl, Gargantia's Amy) as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou (A Certain Scientific Railgun's Mikoto Misaka) as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu (Kill La Kill's Ryuko Matoi, Code Geass' Kallen) as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter and Shizuka Itou (Hayate the Combat Butler's Hinagiku Katsura, Gurren Lagann's Boota and Darry, Jormungand's Koko Hekmatyar) as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.

-New details about the anime's scheduling were also announced. The first episode debuts July 5th at 7:00pm, then the anime will run on the first and third Saturday of the month going forward. a World-wide simultaneous will stream on Niconico Douga.

UPDATE from http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/04/29/sailor-moon-crystal-anime-to-run-26-episodes

-It was also shown that the first run will be 26 episodes.

When more news comes in, it will be posted in this thread. The episode format is unique with a few series doing the alternate week posting. The cast sounds good keeping Moon's original voice, and nice to know the Inner Scouts voice actresses from at least one show I've followed, particularly Ami, Makoto and Minako. Take care!

There's news for both Crystal and the old series too here!

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/05/16-1/viz-licenses-classic-sailor-moon-anime-and-sailor-moon-crystal

Viz announced they will carry both the old series and the new Crystal series to come. The old series will be uncut in both Japanese with the original names and a new English dub uncut version.

The video is here of the announcement. http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/05/16-1/viz-licenses-classic-sailor-moon-anime-and-sailor-moon-crystal

"The English-subtitled version is aiming for a summer release, with the dub to start rolling out later this year. The first four TV anime episodes are set for a Monday premiere on Neon Alley and Hulu, with two additional episodes to premiere every Monday. Viz will also start releasing Sailor Moon in half-season DVD/Blu-ray combo sets starting this fall.

As for the new Sailor Moon Crystal anime, more details on its release will be divulged in the future. It was previously announced that Crystal will stream worldwide, with the series set to premiere online on July 5."

This is a lot of great news for fans of the old and new Sailor Moon anime!

With more announcements like the cast at http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/06/30/sailor-moon-crystal-dark-kingdom-cast-introduced even the mainstream media is getting in on the reboot like Grantland, a subsidiary of ESPN, at http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/sailor-moon-the-explainer/ posting a piece more geared to casual viewers.
