CR 2014 Drama thread Updated Nov 26 2014 to accommodate all Asian Drama available on CR

It hasn't been too lively here but I thought I'd try reviving this a bit, especially since we seem to be getting more shows on CR both for catalog and simulcast -- especially for JDrama.

See the What's New Crunchyroll Drama thread maintained by CrayMeganeChan for a reminder of what's been added.

Are you watching any of these? What do you think? Have fun facts to add? Say so here.

I don't mind watching dramas but I only have an anime membership and this show requires a drama or all access membership.

A little yes, a little no? I guess it depends on what you think is hot. The hottest so far, imo, because I do like her looks, and she's sassy and funny, is the PI Umemoto Kurumi:

Sadly, she's about the only fun thing about the show, and to be honest I'm not sure who this show is supposed to appeal to. Maybe I'm missing something on a cultural level, because it just seems dull and moralistic, without much except superficial variety in the three episodes I've seen so far. So, I'm not sure if there's something it's making fun of, or if it is what it appears to be to me--a divorce-law case-of-the-week procedural, with a basically serious story in which there's no doubt who the bad guy is, topped with a little levity in the form of the main divorce lawyer guy with the goofy looks who's a little flamboyant in his style of acquiring justice and has a baking quirk, his one-note landlord, a wacky waitress, and the aforementioned detective Umemoto Kurumi.

I guess in future episodes we might see some slight variations in the cases taken on, and

(speculation beneath spoiler)

but I'm not going to keep watching long enough to find out, and such a possibility doesn't hold any appeal for me anyway.

I'd love to read some opinions that differ though, so do speak up if you're out there!

Where are all the J-Dramas on Crunchyroll?? Not really interested in the K-Dramas only because i'm trying to learn Japanese! Seems like 90% of the dramas are Korean, what gives???

I was going to suggest using the Genres filter to show just the Japanese titles (many of which are actually movies) but when I tried that almost none of the newer JDrama that I know are available to me were showing up. So much for that idea.

Anyway, I do get the impression it's been harder to get JDrama than KDrama (for everybody--not just CR), but that Crunchyroll is now more actively acquiring rights to JDrama--we've been getting a couple of titles every season both simulpub and catalog additions.

For some discussion on the topic, you might want to look at the last pages of the Do You Like J-Drama thread, starting with this post: /forumtopic-828729/do-you-like-j-drama?pg=24#45310509

Regarding CR's plans, see this article at ANN:

Thanks for the info! :)
Yeah i tried the search with filters but got the same thing, it doesn't seem to be tagged right.
I've been searching out other sources from peoples suggestions on the forum and found some good stuff.

I see we're getting Switch girl both 1 and 2. I personally enjoyed it, I don't know how how others would feel about it. I'll admit it's kinda silly lol

In the last few months I've tried a few of the newer shows but not much really appealed to me. Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo was a fun lark that I did watch all of, but it was too goofy and over-the-top (including overacting) for my tastes so I don't plan on watching Season 2. I enjoyed I'm Mita, Your Housekeeper and also watched the whole thing. Even though it left a path I thought it had started that I was looking forward to seeing explored (I wanted more focus on the father's experience to see more of his character development), it worked out fine.

But I just finished (over the course of two days) Hard to Say I Love You and I loved it. It showed me that it JDrama isn't always cheesy, and isn't always kind of cheap-looking and overacted. It felt much more like Japanese movies I've seen in terms of overall tone and talent. If you like really human stories that sit on a foundation of life as suffering (but not without joy), do watch this. It was a wonderful mix of predictability and surprises. Wish I was more articulate--would love to hear from others who have watched it.]

I also gave Time Taxi a try. Even though I love time-loop shows, this one didn't hit the spot; seems over done, and maybe overly sentimental or something. If I find some extra time I might try another episode. It's not that it's bad--just maybe not a good fit for me.
