Will you be able to sleep comfortably at night knowing someone loves something you hate?!

Hmm, I'm guilty of doing that... I always say things like, "How can anybody rate this anime 5 stars?" or "How can people get entertained by football?".
For me, those questions are rhetorical, in other words, they're statements to say how awful something is.

I can sleep at night though... (the only reasons i can't sleep at night would be bed is too hard or i have a flu). If people hate what I like, I don't really care, but i find the majority's taste in things annoying because they always demand the same things over and over; like I'm tired of seeing loli characters and shallow characters in anime. I get annoyed by not having enough anime that has... diversity or creativity. But I can sleep at night...

Like if one anime is successful, a billion other companies will start making an anime with the same recipe, although slightly different. I find that absolutely stupid. But I understand that they need to make money... but sometimes I feel like they're sacrificing their art to make money...

Art should be about expressing honest and truthful emotions, not using a recipe to please others.

I've clearly gone off-topic, and enjoying talking to myself too much

[I'm going to commit a cardinal sin and not read the rest of the thread before responding to this because it's late and I have to work in the morning. I apologize in advance if any of this has already been said.]

I often see people complaining about the amount of loli/moe shows. Since I look specifically for those things, I can usually see there's plenty of other stuff that doesn't look like it fits into that category. People's concerns of it's influence seem overblown, but I can understand when you don't like something, being able to spot it everywhere. For example, when I watch American TV and it seems I can't escape police procedurals despite their still being only a fraction of new productions. A slightly significant fraction, but a fraction none-the-less.

As far as what art should be about: art is also about cultural expression, and tropes are an integral means to accomplish that. Stories and oral traditions have always borrowed from those that preceded them. I had an English teacher relate Disney movies back to Shakespeare plays. Because of this the evolution of storytelling is pretty gradual for the most part, and lots of ideas will fail to impress. When one works, people will replicate and attempt to create their own derivations of it. The best bet to find the diamonds is to allow the filter of time to do the work for you.

And since most of that was tangential, not really on-topic: Back on topic: I really don't care if people like/don't like the stuff I do or vice versa, so long as they stay the hell out of my way and don't try to censor/protest/legislate/impede my enjoyment of the things I like. [Edit: For example:] I think it's really stupid that this country can, and will, arrest and jail a person over 'obscene'* comic books. (Natural consequence: I'm a supporter of the comic book legal defense fund)

* Edit: And utterly fail to give a solid definition of what that is.

Because I don't get assblasted when people have different opinions than me.

On a fucking anime site, how many people do you fucking think are interested in football? Or Radiohead and Madlib instead of copious amounts of fucking J-Pop. Or whatever the fuck- who cares- life is shit anyway, do what you want to do.

EDIT: JESUS FUCK I NEED SOME SLEEP

Ah okay.
