I loved the musical scores in various Ghost in the Shell and .Hack series. Are there any other shows that have heavy character development and action like in those two coupled with an intense soundtrack?

Cowboy Bebop. And I'm going to rename your thread, as its extremely deceptive.

Extremely deceptive indeed! I also loved the soundtrack of .Hack, I'll never forget'em they're just nostalgic.

Of course, watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, that has a few tracks that are really intense, one specifically you'll never forget....the battle music. I think the name of the track is Decisive Battle? I don't remember. It's just really easy to get stuck in your head.

Kill la Kill that's currently airing has an AMAZING soundtrack. Every second Satsuki-Sama walks on screen, her amazing and dominant track plays and all eyes just focus on her. It's a show that really knows how to play up the soundtrack.

Similar to Kill la Kill, you have Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, which also has a strong musical factor in the series. Both are directed by the same guy and the music is a central part of the experience!

hehe.....dancefloor orgy...

sorry about that. long day downrage. my mind is a little fried.

ive seen cowboy bebop and it's amazing. about time i rewatch it methinks.

i have not seen kill la kill. ill check that one out.

i thought of a few more styles. anything that has the mature philosophical ideas as my previously mentioned shows. that complimented with a dark side not afraid to show death of characters.

thanks for the information so far though.

RahXephon, and you get the added bonus of the music being important to the plot, too.

The most intense/thrilling/heart-charging soundtracks I've heard are from Bleach.

Most memorable:
1. Stand Up Be Strong (Part 1) (Aizen destroys all the shinigami captains in one fell swoop)
2. Soundscape of Ardor (Harribel speaks highly of Ichigo, and later when Orihime is witness to Ichigo's death)
3. B13a (Gin dies and Ichigo returns which leads to Ichigo's fight with Aizen)
4. What Can You See In Their Eyes (Ichigo turns into whitey completely after he dies and pulverizes Ulquiorra)

I could say Pain's OST in Naruto. It's memorable, but it's also very out-of-tune, and that sort of ruins its intensity a bit.

Assuming this is what you asked for.

Tsuna from katekyo hitman reborn. His ost is tsuna rises. It's awesome.
Also any sad moments in Naruto. The ost is man of the world.

Doesn't this technically belong in the "Anime Recommendation" thread?

Also Madoka Magica. Never screw with witches.

Music wise, pretty much anything composed by Yoko Kanno is sure to be fantastic. For reference, she was the one in charge of the Ghost in the Shell: SAC soundtrack. In my opinion she is probably the best composer in the business.

Okie, there are better OST songs, but related specifically to characters, I am going to choose songs that can be related specifically to some point in the show and the characters directly. Again, these are songs that when I hear, I think of a specific character primarily.

I am used to DJ and club, so Initial D's Eurobeats were always good! M.O.V.E. Made some pretty insane tracks for it.
The following tracks and when they were for characters.

When Takumi Fujiwara unleashes the 86.

I love this track. Power of Sound by Ace

Of recent, AoT has insane tracks, and for character themes, I have to go with this point for Mikasa for a song that could be applies to a specific character and show related. This was insane. First video is from show, so spoiler if you havent seen AoT yet

Full Song, D.O.A.

To crown though my post, Gundam wing endless Waltz had some pretty epic tunes. One of those few shows where the main song is applied directly to a character and their scenes. So for Hero Yuri and the Wing zero custom....
