When I try and play a show there is often a flashing line at the bottom of the screen and sometimes at the top. Through some playing with the settings I discovered that when I turn off 1080p/i through the main PS3 display settings and have it maxed out at 720p, the lines go away. Any suggestions to fixing this problem without having to constantly change my display settings in the main PS3 display menu?

Further info: I have the ps3 hooked up to a 1080p TV with HDMI.

Thanks!

I get the problem as well. Also 1080p+HDMI.

i don't find it distracting enough to switch resolutions, but it would be nice if there was a way to remedy it.

If your TV has an overscan setting, you may want to try adjusting that by a few pixels in order to hide the flashing lines.

Overscan on flat panel display is evil. While using it would indeed hide the flashing lines, it would soften any 1080 line image displayed on that 1080 line panel. (It would have little impact on a 720p image, as that is already being scaled on a non-integer basis).

I really wish TV displays would include a masking function to allow blanking out a select number of lines at the top or bottom of a display to address issues like this.

I've been seeing this recently too, intermittently at the bottom of videos (never at the top), seemingly mostly when the bottom part of the image is quite light. It is in the video stream itself since if you pause the video the flashing pauses too (you can freeze the brighter line in place) and if you rewind it occurs consistently in the same places.

I've only been seeing it since replacing my old monitor with a new TV, but have been unsure if that is coincidental.
My TV is a Sony KDL-32W654 with the screen format set to "full" and the display area set to "full pixel", and the PS3 is outputting 1080p at 12-bit colour depth.
