I'm not exactly sure where to post a question like this, so I figure I'll do it here just to ask, since it's not anime related, just a problem in general.

On a recent thread about doing good deeds, I questioned the motivations of a poster putting a picture up of themselves doing a good deed. I thought, if it was their intention to get recognition of a good deed, it was kind of in bad taste. I didn't know if that was really their intention or not, but it was just my opinion if it was for that reason.

Big mistake. As some crazy chick (not even the actually poster of the thread) took offense and said I was standing in judgment of the guy (even though I wasn't.) It turns into an argument, and I say she can knock herself out and believe what ever she wants, but I'm done with it. She says she's done as well. But, then she keeps the attacks going on in another thread. I confront her again and ugly words are exchanged, and I tell her again, let's end this. Only for her to keep going on in the threads and I tell her AGAIN to just go her own way. Only for her to hit me up AGAIN via PM to keep it going with a message I didn't even bother reading. She just won't stop and it's irritating.

I said I was going to block her, but I can't find how to do it. Is there a blocking feature somewhere to block cyberstalkers?

There used to be an option for that, but I'm not sure what happened to it.

Just keep ignoring it. She/he will lose interest in bugging you over this eventually. If there's no option to block than that's the best thing you can do. Troll feeding - don't do it.

I'm an idiot... You know she was so intelligent with her persistence, in spite of my directly telling her what I meant, it never occurred to me that she was just a troll! (You know, because trolls are usually stupid.) I can't believe they don't have a block feature on a site like CR, but yeah, that's the right play.

I don't believe the option exists. It would be hard to pull off in a forum of this style.

I have also had people follow me around from thread to thread just to quote me in as much of a disagreeable way as possible. It can be pretty aggravating. The only real options are to request moderator intervention or just wait for them to get bored and for whatever beef they have with you to blow over.

lol yeah I wouldn't get worked up over it, and I certainly wouldn't call myself an idiot for not seeing it right away! If they continue sending you messages then bask in the satisfaction of knowing that your lack of a reply must be at least as annoying if not more annoying than receiving the messages themselves

And remember not every troll realizes that they are trolling. Some of them genuinely are insulted by some opinion or statement and simply do not realize that what they are doing is craziness, don't give them the satisfaction and let your lack of interest tell them what you think of THEIR opinions on the matter.

Right on, man. I think she fell into the latter. Just total insanity. I mean, seriously, who says it's done, and then goes and keeps it going in another thread? I mean, she was so off, she actually linked the two threads together as if she thought people cared enough to go and read our argument. Who would even do that? Just bizarre. But, that's the internet, I guess. I should've just shut up and saved the keystrokes.

Thanks for the help, Stee. I blocked my inbox from her and like Pintlasher said, I'll just ignore her in the forums until she goes away.

they should move the block settings from the inbox settings to the privacy settings.
and that's no problems at all
best thing to do

It's surprising that CR doesn't have a block user feature.

Oh and I just checked that thread

and boy was it something.

Yep, that thread is a big mess. The people complaining about whether or not the person did the good deed to make themselves look good, are missing the bigger picture.

Who cares if someone does a good deed due to selfish reasons? I bet if you were to ask the homeless man if he would return the food and new pair of shoes because the person who gave those to him only did it to brag about it, the homeless man would laugh at you.

Whether or not a philanthropist promotes welfare because of selfless or selfish reasons, promoting welfare is still promoting welfare. I doubt the starving children in Africa care that their donated food comes from rich people who held a fund raiser at a ballroom event so that they could brag about how much money they have donated to all of their rich friends.

People who complain about philanthropists sharing their experiences should really consider looking at different outlooks in life to pursue.

Think of it this way. If there was not a way for someone to brag about how they helped someone, there would be a lot less charity as the people who only promote welfare so that they can brag about their charitable acts would have no reason to donate, and the world would be worse off because of that.

That is why people use the Humble Bundle as a way to promote their brand. The top donators are listed on the site, so companies use it as a way to promote their brand. While they donated for selfish reasons, the charity still gets hundreds or even thousands of dollars from that company, and I doubt any charity would refuse the money because the donation was only made to promote a brand.

other forums had an ignore feature.

it would automatically put every post by the ignored person under a spoiler tag (you could look if you really wanted to)

and it would block PMs

I have no idea how easy it would be to code. but if you can buddy someone surely you can ignore them.

alternatively, ignore them the old fashioned way. by ignoring them.
