Trey, male 44, live in the South. Not a magna reader but to describe my history with anime:
Don't know if you count the original Speed Racer in Black & White TV) since the 70s.
Fell in love with anime via Venus Wars in 1989. Had a good friend love the 2 "Guy" movies, liked the Shinjuku Demon City movie, remembered when Akira became the #1 movie nation wide in Japan (I was in college).
Old Favorites: Lodoss Wars, Record of the Lodoss Wars, Nausica, Desert Punk, Big Wars, Origin, Jyu-Oh-Sei, The Third, Rune Soldier, Clannad (not what you see on Crunchy Roll), Berserker, Ninja Scroll (hated the 2nd one), The Irresponsible CPT Tylor, Cowboy Bebop, Coyote Ragtime Show, Outlaw Star, Yamato (series & movies), The Robotech series (original), CPT Harlock (it was in the 70s!), the Galaxy Railways, 7 samurai, Crest & Banner of the Stars, Moribito, The Weathered Continent (one of my favorites), all Ghost in the Shell movies & series, disappointed that the series were somewhat different from the movies, that was big shit when it came out, Utawarerunono, The 12 Kingdoms, Ragnarok, Claymore, Gunslinger Girl, Murder Princess, Tower of Duraga, The Sacred Blacksmith, man I could go on.

Maybe it isn't obscure but "older" anime that most younger watchers don't bother researching. I remember waiting for the next anime movie, not expecting so many choices at once.

I'll leave it at that.

I'm Josh, 27. I'm from Columbus, Ohio but I'm kind of wandering right now trying to find a new place to settle for a while.

I got into anime as a teen in the early 2000s from the now-defunct early streaming website Sputnik7.com. I watched Devilman and a few others on there I don't even know how many times. Then a half dozen-ish year period after that where I wasn't interested in anime. For some reason I became interested in experimental film... and that ended up eventually bringing me back to some of the more experimental anime... I guess as I grew up a bit and became less interested in action and gore and shit (don't get me wrong, still sweet), and now I find myself enjoying more story driven and psychological series'.

I like Lain, Tenshi no Tamago, Blame!, Boogiepop Phantom, Fantascope Tylostoma, Genocyber, Mononoke (the Toei one...), Cyber City Oedo 808, 1001 Nights, Steins:Gate, Another.... I can go on forever.

But I also like Natsume Yujin-Cho, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Mawaru Penguin Drum (the theme is killer imo), Bakemonogatari (except the second series, wasn't for me), Naruto (SHUT UUUP)... sooooooo.... yeah. I get sucked into stories, alright!

I tend to be less bothered by the lazier animation styles (esp. if used for effect - like the extras in Penguindrum) and blatant tropes that a lot of the modern series tend to rely on... The overused blur is total shit though, that needs to go away.
