I think that the dumbest form of ignorance in the world is Racism.

1. You had no control over what color you were when you were born.
2. It's just stupid to think to determine whether or not you will like someone based upon the small gene (Melanin) in the smallest organ (The Skin) in the human body.
3. It's just dumb to believe stereotypes. Not every Muslim is a terrorist, not every black is a criminal, not every Hispanic is illegal and not every white person is well to do in the suburbs.

Personally, I believe that many stereotypes and racial hatred is founded by the media as a tool to keep the races divided to stop us from unifying as a nation against the powerful forces at the top that are taking advantage of us. While we look at our neighbors with a suspicious eye, our rights are being stripped away, we're being taxed into oblivion, our jobs are being shipped out, and we're getting fleeced everywhere from the gas pump to the mortgage on the home. While we're so afraid that the Chinese are going to take us over, the Arabs are here to bomb us, the blacks are here to rob us and the Mexicans are here to steal our income and be a burden on welfare, it's really those in control of this nation who do us the most harm.

Nevertheless, people still treat each other like trash based on nothing more than skin tone and facial features. It's stupid.

What are your thoughts on racism?

I don't like it, nor do I really understand it. But I don't think you are nessicarly right. I don't think the media is trying to separate us. Just people ourselves are, 'cause people are just really mean sometimes. I think it's always going to be around, but it would be nice if we tried to stop it just even a little. And one more thing- The skin is the LARGEST organ in the body, not the smallest.

^ You got to the skin thing before I did lol.

I feel like black racism is slowly fading just due to the younger generation thinking that it's dumb and not necessary, mostly in the North. The amount of racism in the South boggles me, mostly because a larger group of minorities and blacks happen to live there.

There will always be the racial stereotypes but I feel like as long as they aren't nasty then I'm ok with my white stereotype...

Really? I had been taught it was the smallest. That if you took all the skin off of the human body and rolled it up, it would be no thicker than a quarter in diameter.

The skin is actually quite thick and it serves as the body's biggest organ and defense.

Sorry to get off topic lol. Carry on.

I agree with you supasoggyrolle.

Seems once the internet came along, mass media lost some of it's grip. Newer generations grow up with less influence from what the TV says, and more from what the World Wide Web says. Maybe it's generational.

Just an example.
My Grandma will sometimes say surprisingly offensive things, casually at that. Whenever I correct my Mom, on the other hand, she tells me "That's just what everyone called them.", with no ill intent behind the term. As for my Grandma, well...

The media wants you paying attention to Celebs and goossip instead of whats really going on around the world, and paying attention to Racism and tragic controversies instead of whats going on in the Government.

Racism as we know it, is man made. When you meet someone different then what your used to, your uncertain, and uncertainty is scary. The powers that be know this, so they blow things out of proportion.

Instead of Local coverage about a innocent boy getting shot, you have something like the Trayvon Martin incident.
"White man shoots Black teen!" Then they try to take away our rights. When we argue, they claim we're defending a Racist.

Got a little carried away. I guess my point is, what OP & sevenhells said. The concept of racism is ignorant.

I am not racist, I do not see skin color. Just the other day I held a door for a black person.

Racism is a result of ignorance, and we must work as hard as we can to rid the world of its poison.

The media is doing it regardless of intent. The media's job is to craft and perpetuate ignorance, not prevent it. They purposefully hype up terror scares and instigate racially (and religiously) predicated controversies.

There are people that actually get offended that people don't live up to their stereotypes

But what I'm more interested in is racism against white people. Do white people get really offended if you call them white trash? "Hey you, corrupted corporate executive!" I don't know, it seems to hurt less than telling me to go back to my own country, but I'm not white so who am I to say

There was a day when my sister came home from school crying because people were making fun of her pale skin. Racism can happen to any race, for any reason. And it hurts everybody just the same. No one race is more or less discriminated against. When someone insults someone for any reason, it's an insult. They can't say, "well, you're white, so it's not really racism." Because there is still ill-intent in their words. Racism can also happen between other races that aren't white. Blacks can make fun of Hispanics, Hispanics can insult Asians, and so on.

"Hey you, corrupted corporate executive" isn't really a racist charge (though I've heard a lot of anti-semitism coupled with it)

However, the anger at "corrupted corporate executives" is still rather well justified. Jamie Diamon just gave himself an 8 million dollar raise after overseeing the bank pay billions in dollars due to fraud settlements, and loss of billions of dollars to an incredibly risky trade. He didn't just get fired, or keep his insane 12 million dollar income, no, he felt the need to raise it to 20 million dollars in light of his performance.

... That's corruption and greed regardless of race.

I hate to say this and putting on my flame proof undies. But I think racism is hard wired into our DNA. We will all ways favor our own race over others that is just the way it is. t goes back to when one group climed down from tree A and saw the group from tree B and didn't like the looks of them
