I for one love a great shoujo. I love how most tend to be alot more heavy in story(not saying shonen doesn't). Its sucks that they say its targeted to young women. I'm not a homosexual( not that theres anything wrong with that) but a friend of mine asked me if i was gay just because of the animes i watch .

A brief list of some of my favorite Shoujo
********************************
Kimi ni Todoke
Glass Mask
Chihayafuru
White Album S1

So i'd like to here your opinions on shoujo do you think it really is targeted towards women exclusively?

I love me my shoujo anime! what wrong with that? nothing. you wouldn't give a crap about a girl that likes to watch DBZ or an other shounen anime, so why create a double standard?

I mean...i don't hate it lol

Nah, but i like it. I've always liked shows that have an emphasis on feminine growth.
Hyakko is not a shoujo however. But since we are on Hyakko...

She's so cute!

Some guys are sexually insecure, so they seek affirmation that they do indeed still have their manhood after watching "a chick flick" as it were. It's one of the pitfalls of western society...

Lol I'm straight as they come and I'm the same way...I don't know how many times I've teared up watching Chihayafuru I think it has something to do with the straight up raw emotion in those shows that just don't "beat around the bush" with issues of friendship, love, happiness, etc. For me, shows like that are ways to help me sort out the emotional pains that I experienced growing up if that makes sense.

We're told in our culture that to be a man you have to suppress your natural emotions and only show the "hardcore" ones like anger and pride. I grew up like that and I'm just happy now that I didn't get arrested for drug dealing and fights which I was doing just to prove I was a "man"....wow I'm just going on a rant right now lol! Good post though bro.

As a fan of Seinen anime.

I say I generally dislike Shoujo, as they tend to be a bit... too unrealistic?

I believe the female leads of Shoujo arn't original, but they are better than the generic male leads.

I hate the generic male love interests however, they're always Mr. Crouching Dumbass hidden smart ass. Always the "naive, kind, and violent" if they're not "generic, perfect, and understanding"

But give me two realistically flawed characters and a plot, I'll have myself a time.
