School Days.
It was a psychological anime that, aside for being metaphorical for the whole of life, also left a tale that allowed for a psycho-analysis of the characters that I consider wonderful.

While at many points it made me feel angry at the main character, it made me feel. But, that's the thing. It made you feel. Using familiar elements, it still left a strong impression making you thing about it for quite a time to come.

Let's see. For me, I have a total of 20 TV series that got a 10 rating from me on MAL. But the one show that stands out more so than the rest is, without question, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. That's just an amazing series all around, and with Hiromu Arakawa being in charge from start to finish, it definitely has it all. The first season was headed down the path until it veered off course with a different story. While also exceptionally great, it's nothing compared to Brotherhood.

Other shows that are the cream of the crop are Clannad, Steins;Gate, and Code Geass.

1. Aria: the Animation / Aria: the Natural / Aria: the Origination.
Visually, its amazingly pleasant to look at and remarkably faithful to Venice. Wonderful character designs for wonder characters. Amazing soundtrack (perhaps the best i've ever heard), and characters that grow on you so much that they seem more like real friends than fictional portrayals. Finally, an impeccably serene, joyful, and cheerful slice of life story that makes you happy to be alive.

2. WataMote
A hilarious yet thought-provoking look into the life of an unpopular girl. Highly relatable scenarios that are only exaggerated for the sake of comedy. Perhaps the only story in existence starring an unpopular character that doesn't cop out near the end and give her a friend, adding to the realism and truly catering to their target audience by refusing to compromise realism for "the power of friendship." Amazingly relevant and witty fanservice (not the sexual kind) in the form of numerous references to anime, manga, and popular culture. Perfect, as far as i'm concerned.

Kemono no Souja Erin, AnoHana, and Kimi ni Todoke come close for me personally, but I can still find some nagging faults that prevent me from truly calling them perfect even from my own perspective. They definitely deserve an honorable mention from me, though, in terms of being very nearly perfect to me personally. EDIT - I would give the above 10s out of 10 even though they're not perfect, though. But that's more or less a courtesy rating as giving them a 9 would just seem petty.

Gintama - Everything about the show. It had amazing comedy moments. It has the serious moments and the sad moments. The characters and the voices behind each one of them all did a great job. It just needs to stop trolling and come out with a new season already

Other shows that I consider 10/10:

Steins;Gate
Bakemonogatari
Kimi Ni Todoke
Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Fate/Zero - is one of the greatest anime of all time it's only drawback being the fact that the ending had to tie into Fate/Stay Night, but since Ufotable is redoing that I guess it becomes another strength unless they botch it which is highly unlikely. 9.5/10 (10/10 if Ufotables FsN is good which it probably will be).

Hunter X Hunter (2011) - is my personal favorite and as it stands hasn't had many downsides aside from occasional slow pacing because of prep before fights and even then there are only about 3 maybe 4 episodes out of (currently) 112 that made me feel that way and that's mostly because I've already read the manga (albeit a while ago) and know most of whats going to happen. 10/10

Kara no Kyoukai - probably doesn't count since it's a movie although it's still a series so I guess they can be counted as just having long episodes. 9/10 (the first movie has you lost if you watch in release order and the second feels slow if and only if you're yearning for intense action). If neither of those is a problem it's definitely 10/10.

Baccano - doesn't have anything I can complain about (except maybe it's length, but it was perfect until they show what happened after they got off the train at that point I was hoping they would add more).

Hellsing Ultimate - is one of the top in its genre since it doesn't hold anything back all the characters are awesome (albeit batsh*t crazy) and even in that cast Alucard is a BAMF 10/10 if you're looking for pure (gory as hell) entertainment that also makes you think a little.

Death Note and Geass - would have been up there if not for their second season/ half screwing itself over (IMO).

Mashiroiro Symphony
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu - Purezza (= 2nd season)

Every episode is great. The characters are interesting. The storyline is very well done.

Mind you I have not seen many animes. I think most of you have seen many more than I have.

Hunter x Hunter is getting very close but it's not finished yet so can't make any final judgements

Well for me there are two shows that I would consider 10/10

Fate/zero: It is probably the only show that I can think of that, to me, has no real flaws. I mean you might dislike a character or something along the lines of that. That is an opinion which I can't change. That said, in the execution of the plot, character interactions, dialogue, fight scenes, artwork, animation, etc., this show is just incredible. To me it towers over almost every other show in every category. Hence it makes the cut.

Code Geass: As for this one it the other one i would place amongst the ranks of perfection. While it may have had a few small flaws for example I am not a fan of the Clamp character design, but i grew used to it. The animation and art again great for its time. The reason I have to rank this was because it was so damn entertaining, characters were dynamic, and well it spoke to me on a personal level. For those reason I call it a 10/10.

Honorable mention: I'll have to go with Death note, Steins;gate, Psycho-pass and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Each one of these shows were really awesome, and to me would probably all be 10/10's if it weren't for the above shows separating themselves, and really just curving the grading scale.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Had amazing character development, an amazing score, no discernible lulls (for me) and also had quite an emotional impact.

Unfortunately I can find obvious flaws with pretty much all of my other favorite anime, so it looks like Gurren Lagann wins this round.

Personal faves/close to perfect, though: Death Note, Steins;Gate (+ OVA and Movie), Blast of Tempest, and Ergo Proxy take the cake. Each made me think, feel for (or against) their cast in major ways, had all-around well-thought-out plots, gorgeous animation and music, etc.

Bubblegum Crisis... everything about it feels grounded in a gritty reality that seems genuinely believable and has a social/political edge that is very strong yet is never once stated. It is violent yet never unpleasant, cute but never stupid, the music is unforgettable (especially the reperformed songs in English by a group in Wilmington) and it has a unique retro feel that will never go away.

Excellent choice! It really is a "must see" anime in my opinion.

This guy gets it. School Days is an anime that you can't ignore. It can't easily be dismissed or forgotten. It takes meanness to an entirely new level, and then goes even further. It's exquisitely horrible and for that it's also wonderful.

Spice and Wolf

I really love two character that have interaction. For me this is the best perfect anime show I ever watched in my life.

Clannad, Steins;Gate, Air, Kanon 2006, Little Busters! and Gurren Lagann

They give me a lot meaning life tip for me to move forward in life.

Code Geass, Mirai Nikki, Guilty Crown, Naruto, and many more.

A lot of these really improve my depression life to a better one.

SLAYERS.

1)First say it in 1998 on the International Channel; still on my top 4.
2)Popular enough to get another 2 seasons 10 years latter.
3)Funimation managed to get 99% of the original voice cast from the classic dubs.
4)The series dubs are exquisite. The voices are perfect, the acting is good, the translations are good, the jokes translate well.
5)Megumi Hayashibara soundtrack.
6)Voices very similar to Japanese counterparts. It really pisses me off when they don't, except in Chou Gals, which had a horrid Japanese voice cast.
7)There are several parallel universe & spin-off mangas that have not been animated to read when you run out of episodes to watch.
8)A ton of movies & OAVs.
9)Not cliche. How many animes do you know are based on Dungeons & Dragons & have a woman as the most powerful & scary person alive, & she wears pants? How many shounen animes do you know that evoke Girl Power without making the female lead insultingly stereotypicaly girly?
10)Good balance of action, adventure, comedy, drama, & seriousness.
11)No moe. Ecchi characters are used as punching bags instead of being glorified for fanservice.
12)The OP & ED videos pack a serious punch.

Flaw 1: The OAV dubs; Not as good voice acting, Lisa Ortiz not cast as Lina. Some fans actually prefer Cynthia Martinez, but that's only because they saw the OAVs before the series was dubbed, & "you (almost) always prefer the first version you're exposed to."

Flaw 2: As much as I loved Slayers Revolution & Slayers Evolution-R, the story diverged from the manga a bit & felt forcibly kiddified while the manga was much darker.

Watch these clips & see if the show looks interesting for you.
