Unfortunately, I'm not as big of an anime fan as I used to be.

I signed up for a trial membership, but it looks like I may end up not keeping it at the end. The service is terrific, it's just that I flat out couldn't make the time to watch anime- At least not enough for me to do a paid membership.

During the past 7 days, I only watched anime on two of those days for a total of four episodes. After I make this post maybe I'll try watching another episode but it'll be time for me to sleep because I have to wake up for work as usual.

I honestly don't remember when was the last time I bought an anime collectible. I wasn't a huge spender even when I was buying stuff, but I do have two animation cells (including a cell of Fuu from Rayearth- spending $100 on a single cell was kind of a nutty thing to do, but it was of my favourite character). I have art books that I have not opened in literally a decade or more gathering dust somewhere. The last time I went to an anime convention was Anime Expo (2007? I forgot which year was it)

During college I used to spend just about all of my free time (aside anime watching time) fussing over the various fan websites I've made. Since then, I've neglected them and much of the material is completely gone- Not even searchable from a site like Wayback Machine.

I think part of it is that I've got stuff distracting me (from the point of view of "doing anime"). I have a huge backlog of games spread across 3 consoles plus a couple of different PCs(!) to play, and even if I have time left over I couldn't just dive into my own hobbies when I come back home in the evening- I have to talk with / snuggle / etc with my wife unless I want to make her angry lol. (She puts up with my anime/manga but she's not a fan)

I still like anime, I just couldn't make the time. Yes, I know that if I'm a "real fan" then I would MAKE the time. When there's a will, there's a way after all. I suppose that just means what I wrote in the title- I'm just not as big of a fan any more. It's not really sad; It's just the way it went with me.

I think as long as you still enjoy it you can consider yourself a "real fan". We are not in a competition over consumption here.

With the right title I bet you could turn your wife around on anime. That would probably help your case a bit.

Limit yourself to one or two episodes a day and as many as you like on the weekend. I do a similar routine since I juggle a lot myself. 8-12 hour work days 5-6 days a week, still buying and playing games for older systems as well as new ones, surfing the net, the usual house work, shopping, a few spots at my leisure, some regular network television, several hobbies, and there's probably several more things I could list as well.

Honestly, I don't think not having the time for something you enjoy doesn't make you any less a fan of it than you already are. Though there are times you need to cut something down or out (which I always make temporary) to make things go more smoothly. Don't give up, just give it time.

I have that a lot, too. I try a few different shows here, but most of the time they either don't interest me or they piss me off.

That's ok. We all have different phrases in our lives. I use to be a big anime fan when I was in my teenager years, when I was 14 to 20. Now that I'm 23 to 24, I don't find anime that interesting anymore. The only anime I listen to are anime music videos.

Funny, because my story is somewhat the polar opposite. I liked anime a lot as a youth. When I was in my late teens until recently, I had other things consuming my time. Now I'm in older, and I can't seem to get enough anime to satiate me? I've even started watching an episode over my lunch break at work! It had been so long since I watched anime that I didn't realize how incredible the CGI had become. Hell, when I started watching everything was drawn by hand! So lately I've been on an anime binge, and I'm trying to watch the simulcast new titles while catching up on everything (that interests me) that I've missed over the past twenty years. I'd really like to visit a convention, too, but I just don't want to be that weird old dude that looks like a creepy stalker because he's there all alone!

I thought this was the name of a new anime when I saw the thread. Kind of has that same name as some recent shows.

Most of this just comes off as whining to me. Welcome to the real world. You will just have less and less free time from now on, especially if you have any real responsibilities.

my problem is that I don't have internet at home and have to watch anime at school. when I get internet at home (aka money) I will pay for a premium membership. but for now it's not worth it. I have the time because I have no social life.

there was a period of time a few years back where i really didnt watch much anime either and i couldnt tell you what was the new hotness at all. 2012 was a really good year for anime though and it pulled me back into the fold. CR just lets me keep up with all the new stuff without having to hunt through fan-sub torrents or streaming to my computer (thank you CR on my PS3!). ive also been able to revisit a ton of older stuff too that i havent seen in over a decade (Fist of the Northstar, Galaxy Express 999, et al of the Leiji Matsumoto material). if it wasnt streaming to my PS3 though...i dont know how up to date i would be.

I find I don't watch much TV in general, haven't for years. I did give up video games last year, watching your kids waste their lives away put it into perspective, and that left me with a lot more time for other things. One of those things is anime. Am I as into it I was years ago? No. I am not, but then, I don't have to be. I don't have to drive for hours to find a couple of VHS that wouldn't last the length of the trip I took to get them. I can sit down when I have 25 minutes to spare and watch a show.

If you can't find the time for a couple of episodes a week, then it just isn't your thing anymore. Don't feel bad about it, just move on.
