I was expecting to have it for the winter lineup this year, and I haven't seen any news of it being continued, which is really upsetting considering it's one of my favorite animes. (And I just don't get the same thrill from the manga.)

They need a lot more manga material, the first two seasons covered 90 chapters and the manga's just coming up on 125. They also need it to hit a point that they can use to end the season with in some way, right now it's in mid-story-stride. The manga is published biweekly, so we're looking at 4-6 months before the story's advanced enough at least.

could probably make a 12 episode season after the manga is done with the current Meijin and Queen matches. But yeah don't expect one any time soon.

I can patiently wait for a season 3, but what I'd like to know is will any of the North American anime companies take a chance on licensing and releasing this wonderful series? I know it's technically a sports anime, and an obscure one at that, so the odds are against it in that regard; however, the relationships and romance are, I think, compelling enough for one of these companies to take a serious look at releasing it stateside. FUNimation has already stated that sports anime are dead to them, in an ANNCast this past year, so they are out. Similarly, Viz probably got burned one too many times with sports related releases, so they are equally disinterested I'd imagine. Sentai is a possibility and so is NIS America, but no word yet from either. The other companies would only do DVD releases, and I'd be sad not to have this on Blu-ray if that happened.

Don't expect to see Chihayafuru 3 for at least another year. But probably more like 2.

Hopefully history will repeat itself and they'll take a chance on another anime season.

I'm not sure where to find DVD/BD sales, but the manga was one of the best selling in 2013. I'd be surprised if they didn't see the series through, although I'm more worried about a fourth season than a third; that is going to be a long wait.

I'm all for it, this is an anime that is certainly unique and I would be proud if I was someone who was on that team. I watch it alot, it always cheers me up. There is just too much build up to end it with the second season. I expect it will be out in fall 2016 or winter 2017, unless they are working on it as the manga unfolds and they are going to surprise us!

I generally don't like sports anime in general but thanks to the romance I enjoyed this one. I did tend to fast forward through a lot of the sports stuff as it got tedious. I'm also hoping they run another season as I'd like to see how the romance pans out.

I certainly want it to happen, a third season for Chihayafuru. But it will be quite some time before that happens since the manga is still going on. The second season could of moved a bit faster having spent half of the season on one tournament, but still it is amazing stuff that carries over from the first season. But I am kind of expecting it to come, just maybe in 2016 or so. In the meantime, what I am hoping for more is that NIS America licenses this title (I don't think anyone else would be willing to pick it up, but it has the most to gain being released by NISA).

Chihayafuru is a phenomenal series that will hopefully continue. It is every bit as well done as Saki.

I REALLY WANT A SEASON 3.

I really want to watch the anime until the end. I can read the manga of it, but it's not the same without the beautiful colours, effects and the sounds.

I can wait for season 3 for a year or more. What I want to know is whether it will have a season 3 or not?

This is my favourite anime. If there are no season 3 for this, I'll probably never get over it.

As long as the manga is still ongoing, there's always hope.

Right, so I don't have have my glasses on right now and I have a killer flu, but that didn't stop me from noticing your inquiry as to whether Chihayafuru was available on DVD and/or BR. In answer to search, an Australian company called Siren Visual released it on DVD (only) quite recently (I imagine). How do I know this?

Because I am Australian and I bought it myself.

From what I understand on the website, they're the only company releasing it outside of Japan (<(?___?<;)) and they do ship internationally.

Here is a link I hope can be useful, though be warned; Australia uses region 4.

Chihayafuru has to be one of the cheapest anime to make. 80% of the animation is the Ken Burns effect. They even managed to cheap-out on having to draw those elaborate traditional Japanese clothes throughout that one day's worth of tournaments that lasted, like, 18 episodes.

I'm not complaining; the point is it seems like it'd really be more likely for an S3 if it's low-cost, while still having the effect of boosting the manga sales.
