The longest book I ever read probably would be Genji Monogatari by Murasaki Shikibu. I really enjoyed it, great read and well written too.

I'm kind of ashamed to say that Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix is probably the longest book I've ever read. I would say that I don't regret it.

I read the unabridged english version of Las Miserables, a whopping 1,600 pages for a high school book report. I actually really enjoyed reading it, more so that some contemporary works and while it was long, I found that it went by really fast. If you're willing to endure it and like classics, I highly recommend reading it!

War and Peace (for High School) and no it wasn't worth it. It honestly was quite painful to read.

Longest book I have ever read was also War and Peach and it was totally worth taking the 2 months and 3 other books to get through that one. I have to say I honestly enjoyed it.....can't remember any character names or much of what happened but I do remember I enjoyed reading it.

Books are awesome

I would just like to take a minute and applaud this fine observation.

That aside my longest read would off the top of my head is probably The History of the Ancient World : From the Earliest Accounts to the Fall of Rome, by Susan Wise Bauer. It clocks in at a meager 896 pages and it was most definitely worth it, as it offers the most comprehensive overview of world history and the most entertaining perspective on ancient events possible. I would recommend it to anyone, because despite its reasonable size it reads like a popular history, or a layman's introduction.
For those of you who want to talk about trilogies then yes LOTR is an obvious choice, why don't we all just chalk that one up. Plus the Hobbit, we all know There and Back Again was just a preface anyways.

I hope you got a flippin certificate for that or some sort of recognition. That must be hard going, bad enough it is so long, the writing style must be fairly archaic too. I never really understood why schools force students to read things like this, fair enough extracts, as it is important to know it exists and the ideas included in it but my God, it is enough to put you off reading!

I don't really know, but of the longer books I remember reading, it's between these three

Into The Storm: A Study in Command
Every Man A Tiger: The Gulf War Air Campaign
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

They're all around the 600 some page mark which isn't all that long but all three were well worth reading, though each for different reasons.
