Stanard "lock if duplicate" disclaimer.

So, I continue a personal struggle out of free will. It's a pointless struggle, but my inability to succeed will not stop me from trying as a pure expression of free will.

I'd ask people how much they believe they have free will and why, or whether or not we are railed to our fate, be it glorious or tragic.

Does everything that happens happen for a reason, or are people truly capable of determining their own fates? I'm not sure anymore...

P.S. I'm not talkin' about little things like what you have for dinner. I mean, like, major stuff.

There's no fate, nor free will. Everything is conditioned by external stimuli, however those events are not foreseeable in their totality

Fate is a four letter word while free will is two four letter words.

We are tied to our fate. I don't believe a bag of chemicals (which is what we are) can have free will. Every process in the human body, including the activity of the synapses must be the result of physical laws, over which we have no control. The mechanisms responsible are so monstrously complex that it appears a thought comes from nowhere, spontaneously, giving the illusion of free will. In truth, our thoughts and behavior may be chaotic, like the weather - but they are still grounded by the law of cause and effect. Do not cease to will yourself on to greater things just because the future is already set however. Our intelligence lifts us up from the randomness of nature. We are inclined to change the things that don't suit us, with our ability to learn and reason. Our use of language is over-simplified for efficiency, and this sometimes results in misunderstandings, especially with regard to the discussion of causality. It would be more precise to say - "I pass on an idea to mix with your own, so that it will produce healthier thoughts that will result in actions that benefit you in future." This is what we should all do - give advice, answer questions, and help each other to make a better world.

If your viewpoint is finite, as in human, then you apparently have free will.
If your viewpoint is infinite, as a omnipotent being, then it would be fate.

Since we can only be human, we've only a finite view, to us it has to be free will. For if we give up, then only failure awaits us. A person has to prepare for success, if success is knocking at your door then you need to be there to answer it.

Move forward one step at a time, many millionaire's have had several business failures before making the big money. Singers, Actors, and those of other professions also have had failures before making it big. Accept the failure but move on to the next challenge the real success is in persevering regardless if the outcome is good or bad. The successful have challenges also, just different ones than those who haven't succeeded yet. Even if it is fate you won't ever know if it was till the final curtain comes down, for trips never go as planned.

Free will. Fate is not set in stone. This question makes me wonder if there is some sort of multi-verse though like in Bioshock though.. That would be messed up
