Hey guys,

ON TOP of our new manga simulpubs coming out, we're excited to announce that ALL of our Kodansha titles will now be expanded to the following territories as well: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Finland, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia, China, Brazil and Mexico.

So does italy get twice as many?

Ahahaha, typo! Thanks for the catch.

Great news! Always nice to see more manga being added digitally.

But if I could provide a bit of unsolicited advice.

The current method of adding later chapters without earlier chapters is very much a turn off, and in all honesty, is keeping me from upgrading to all-access. It's kinda like starting anime simulcasts midway through a season, and not offering the early episodes because they have already been released on blu-ray/dvd. This creates a negative cost value, both for crunchyroll and your customers, since; why would anyone want to start reading or watching a story midway through?

If you take a look at earlier attempts at official online manga digital distribution platforms that have since failed, you will find one major point in common; an unwillingness to distribute content both digitally and physically simultaneously, leaving massive gaps in the manga available on the digital platform, providing those of us who prefer digital only, little reason to use the service since; why would anyone want to start reading or watching a story midway through?

So my advice to crunchyroll, since I really want this service to succeed and not follow the trend of those that have come before, is do not start simulpubing a manga until all the back-catalog is available to all-access subscribers, while also reconsidering offering manga that a publisher will not allow to be offered simultaneously in print and digital (...digital is the future, no matter if manga publishers want to accept it or not...).

That's my 2 cents.

Cheers

Personally, I don't mind them starting at the point they pick up from. People may already be reading it "elsewhere", and a legal alternative is nice.

However, as well as realising forward from this point, new acquisitions should also work backwards from current and onwards from start Especially in cases like Is This Girl For Real? where even the unofficial scans aren't up to date. As of right now, I can neither pick up form where I've left off or even go back to the beginning to re-read. So I'm left hoping that CR either back-fill quickly or, oddly, the scanlators get up to date just as quickly. As, at this point, CR's not in a place I can pick up form.

There is no scanlation for many of these. They are just dead on arrival.

I love what you guys are doing here!

That said, any chance we'll be getting the ability to add simulpub manga to our queue in the future?

Dude, I so agree with you there. Hope they can figure it out on the technical side, because I would love to be able to get notice right away when the chapters come out.

WHEN are the back catalog of chapters going to be uploaded? It's ridiculous that Crunchyroll just say 'at a later date' When will that be? Some indication would be nice.

Bear in mind that they could well be putting them up as fast as the materials get delivered and processed, in which case the only way to give advance notice is to delay putting the materials up and put up a notice instead.

If the manga publishers in Japan are not giving them a date certain, Crunchyroll can't give a date certain. And given how big the manga publishers are compared to Crunchyroll, its not like Crunchyroll can put the squeeze on them to force them to specify a date certain.
