High STR and PWR stats. Anyone saying that you need DEF or LCK is just a pussy support character fanboy/fangirl.

A beard with a fist behind it waiting to punch you. A roundhouse kick that can reach anywhere in the world. That makes a good character.

A whole and deep personality. Complete with negative and positive traits.

I feel like characters need to have something to show that they are alive.

Whether that is a change that happens over the plot or simply the want to be better.

Characters with a unique, substantial personality. Someone you can't quite compare to anyone else. They are imperfect and relatable, while still retaining their own identity and not falling into too many troupes or clichés. They define their story; their story does not define them.

They also need good character development. Otherwise they are flat, less interesting and less relatable. They need to face adversary, show emotion, and make a conscious change to their thinking or behavior. People should be able to connect to a strong character's troubles and be provoked to try to understand the reasons behind their actions. They should also be a bit mysterious, so their actions are left up to some interpretation.

In short: a strong character acts, thinks, and feels as realistically human as possible.
