PRICES GO UP AT THE GATE
my same exact thoughts. I am so mad. ahhh. but you pretty much wrote it how I feel. sigh... I don't want to consider that the end. they should of cut the trip short and then gone to a time skip where Jun is older and ends up with Narumi if they were going to do something rushed. even if something like that would of happened then it would of been better. idk what those last 4 chapters where..... sigh.....
The more I think about it, the more the ending of this manga pisses me off. for multiple reasons.
First off, that dumb Chibi girl. Why the hell did Jun hook up with her at the end? Seriously. She had almost no character development through the entire series. All she got was a bit of back story near the end, but that's all it was, back story. Her character wasn't actually fleshed out. Her character didn't grow, her character never learned a single thing.
Speaking of her character not learning or trying to change a single thing about herself....Unlike Narumi. This little brat does the whole "OH GOD, I'M LOOKING AT JUN. MY FACE IS SO RED. I'M EMBARRASSED" bullshit the ENTIRE time. Not once did she learn from the other characters and actually try to speak up. Never did she grow out of her dreamy 13 year old view of a boy and what a relationship should be. She didn't try to become more responsible in an effort to attract jun. Any work she did do, tended to be thrust upon her, because she's to shy to say no.
The girl was sweet enough, but seriously, she had her chance for YEARS, and she blew it. As a guy, I know full well about having a chance to say something, but never doing so. Know what? THAT WAS MY OWN FAULT. I had the feelings, I didn't say anything. Same for this annoyingly shy girl. She had been friends with Jun for YEARS. She hung out with him all the time, knew where he lived. Yet she chose to join a club instead of coming over to his house and helping him and his mom each day. She chose to drop her head down the second Jun would smile at her, or comment that she looked cute.
She had her chance, and blew it. Tough luck kid. Learn from your mistakes, grow up a little, and try again in the future.
Compare her with Narumi, and the difference is stark. At the beginning, she's a drunk, she's hanging all over jun. She's unreliable, lazy, and in general, an inconvenience to Jun and his mom. But once she realizes she actually LIKES jun, She honestly try's to change. She will only drink when jun says it's ok. A couple times, she had the chance to drink, but she didn't do it. She was practicing at drawing, to be more of a help to Jun and his mom. She started doing pretty much all the house work, in an effort to get Juns attention.
And here's the kicker...HER CHANGES WERE WORKING. Jun was slowly becoming more attracted to her as time went on. He caught himself having a few heart flutters. He was beginning to get honestly embarrassed when he was alone with her. He would mentally comment on how much more useful around the house she has become, Thinking about how she's become more dependable.
I get that the author wanted another 10 or 20 volumes to flesh out the story. But he could have at LEAST made the ending make fucking sense. He could have had jun choose Narumi, and them both admit that the age thing will be a problem, but a problem that they will face together.
And it's not like Narumi had been friends with Jun for his entire childhood, unlike the shy chibi girl. Plus, her unwillingness to speak up about her feelings is a little bit more believable as she is 10 years older than Jun. There's an actual decent reason for him to shoot her down. So she HAS to spend time keeping her feelings to herself, so she can slowly win over Jun's affection.
And what REALLY pisses me off, is that Narumi was taught a simple lesson the ENTIRE MANGA. That that is to try your best and not give up. To put in the effort, because you never know where it might lead you. And what does she do in the last chapter? SHE ROLLS OVER AND QUITS ON HER DREAM OF BEING WITH JUN! *bashes head against keyboard* And for what? Jun had only barely started to show interest in Chibi girl. It's not like he admitted to himself earlier on that he loved, or hell, even really liked chibi girl. She was a new development for him. by the end of the manga, Chibi girl still wasn't a huge threat to Narumi. Sure, she was a growing threat, but not a big enough threat for her to roll over and give up. It's not like she gave up, so Jun could be happy with his true love....because the manga had yet to describe chibi girl as his true love.
And as others have said, there was no actual relationship between people of a different age! The manga never got to that part, and the problems that would naturally arise from such a relationship. But in my opinion, I feel as if the last chapter COULD have alluded to the fact that there would be problems in the future, while giving us a positive ending that made some bit of sense.
The Mangaka dun fucked up. He did a complete 180 in the last 2 or 3 chapters. And because there's no epilogue, we don't see what actually happens to Narumi in the future. So because of that, all of her character progression, all of her hard work was for nothing. There's no payoff. And in the end, this is how the manga itself ended. Without any payoff. We the readers read 47 chapters, and in the end we are let down, without any kind of closure for the characters that we grew attached to, that we rooted for. And just as Narumi gave up on Jun, we the readers are now forced to give up on this manga.
Also, Why is it in anime and manga, the main character NEVER chooses the childhood best friend when it makes 100% sense for him to do so, but the second the fans WANT the main character to NOT choose the childhood best friend, the Author suddenly decides to hook them up.
Seriously, what's with japan and their seemingly hatred for the girl who works her ass off to help the main character? The girl who is ALWAYS beside him, the girl that loves him more than anything, the girl that not only would do anything, but pretty much has already done everything for the main character. They seem to really hate this type of girl, and instead love to make the main character hook up with either the Tsundere character, or leave him undecided.
Sorry, Didn't mean to turn this into basically a review of the ending, But seriously, the more I think about it, the more the ending pisses me off. The last time I was this annoyed at an ending, Was the ending to Mass Effect 3.
I think I'm gonna go play a video game for a while. I'll come back to catching up on the newest anime tomorrow, while the crushing blow of ANOTHER terrible ending to a romance story leaves me feeling empty.
I wanted to write something...but you basically stole my thunder...Bless you child XD
Narumi was best girl though hands down.
Here we are.
Is this in print in English yet?
Sounds like i would like it. I just hate reading manga on a screen. I need the real deal.
