I recently had decided to cancel my premium membership
... because I am moving and will not have any way to watch Crunchyroll. I wanted to cut next months payment out of my bills. I had just paid the subscription fee after receiving my new bank card in the mail, and knew I was going to want to watch a bit of anime before I moved. Relax time after the packing and cleaning. When my boyfriend mentioned we were going to sell our TV before moving, I said I would cancel our membership since I knew we weren't going to have a new TV for a bit.

Here is where I did a stupid move... I "assumed".
I "assumed" that Crunchyroll was like most other TV, game, movie, anime, etc... services, and that when I canceled I was going to have until the next billing period to enjoy the services... since I already paid for the period until then. Nope. so here I was after freshly renewing Crunchyroll, and having only paid two days earlier... only to realize I no longer have premium even though I paid for the whole month.

I am just wondering if there are any plans to change this in the future. Or maybe put a warning in big red letters that says... "Even if you just paid, if you cancel, you no longer get your premium services. Thanks for the donation." There is just no reason for it to be effective the day of. I just don't want to pay for next months services. That's next month. The problem is not this month.

Thank you for reading this.

It is just an opinion, and how I feel.
I hope this feature of the site is better in the future. Lesson learned. I paid a month fee for 2 days of service.

Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. Explain the situation, and they'll most likely refund you.

Before canceling your membership, it should have been stated that the membership would cease functioning immediately. Since you may have overlooked this and did not mean to immediately cancel your membership, I have reactivated your membership and disabled it from renewing so that you can enjoy the remaining membership you have without worrying about being charged again, unless you decide to sign up for a new subscription.

I'll forward your suggestion to add big giant letters. : D

If you need further assistance, please contact us directly:

Take care!

Good luck and have fun moving.

There is an explanation on the cancellation page regarding both account cancellation and recurring payments cancellation:

After canceling Recurring Payments for accounts with more than 30 days remaining, Premium Membership features will remain active until the end of the billing cycle. After that time, your Premium Membership will be downgraded to a Free Membership. Accounts with fewer than 30 days remaining will be immediately cancelled.

When canceling your Premium Membership, all Premium Membership features will cease immediately. We are unable to give refunds for partial months of membership that were remaining. You can sign up for a Crunchyroll Premium Membership any time afterwards, although you will not be eligible for another free trial if you used one previously.

We'll look into making this information clearer, though, so there's less confusion.

The real question is why on earth are you doing it that way? CR is pretty much alone among subscription services with this policy and
I can't imagine it's all that great from a customer service perspective, clearly you have field no renewal requests etc, not to mention making it a general pain for your customers. Clearly you can set memberships to not renew, can that functionality not be exposed to subscribers beyond the arbitrary 30 days or more remaining limit currently in place?
