I have had Tsubasa Chronicle on stuff that I was planning to watch for the longest time. Decided to finally start watching it after I saw xxxHOLiC Kei. I instantly fell in love ith xxxHOLiC and I was told that if I liked it, then I'd like Tsubasa Chronicle. I'm about four or five episodes into it and I'm kinda sorta disappointed. I also dislike Syaoran a little bit.

Thoughts?

The manga is leagues better than the anime.

The anime is a terrible adaptation IMHO.

If you're still interested in it, read the manga, don't waste your time with the anime.

You need to put forth the investment of watching more than just tsubasa.

Tsubasa references the following anime:

Card captor Sakura

Xxxholic

Chobits (if I remember my anime)

Now, that you have seen the above you are ready to watch tsubasa.

I really liked Tsubasa Chronicle. It reminded me a lot of Dragon Quest 7. In that they visit all these different worlds and help people with their different situations, sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing. That is what Dragon Quest 7 was basically about.

xxxHolic and Tsubasa Chronicle are very closely intertwined. Especially Watanuki and Syaoran. Watanuki even plays a huge role in Tsubasa Chronicle toward the end of it. That is why people recommend you watch both. But by that same logic I should also recommend Blood-C to you. If you decide to watch Blood-C, the only thing I can say is, the show starts at about episode 6. Honestly, the first half of the series is pretty boring, like nothing at all happens. The second half, well... let's just say it lives up to its name.

It also references X and Miyuki and Rayearth, and, well, pretty much every CLAMP show / manga just in varying degrees. There is also a cross over episode in Kobato, which itself also references Chobits and one or two other CLAMP shows.

Tsubasa and xxxHolic are intertwined, although the references largely are in Tsubasa referencing xxxHolic than the other way around. However, there are a few scenes in xxxHolic you can connect to Tsubasa if you watch carefully enough. Tsubasa essentially have characters from other CLAMP shows making cameo's. The cameo characters are, generally speaking, similar in appearance but having different traits than their originals because they are in different universes. Generally completely different universes and not parallel. So one does not really need to have watched the other shows, it just gives more meaning.

The major issue for me is that the show is not complete, so it ends kind of on a cliff hanger. You really need to read the Manga (or read the Wiki) to finish it up. But that is true with a lot of Anime. And, I never hold my breath for completed works when it comes to CLAMP anyway. At least they did finish the Tsubasa and xxxHolic Manga.

The manga is great. The anime adaptation starts off strong, but then it just wastes its time doing too many things that don't really advance the story. This is particularly on full display during the second season. I would suggest that you watch the first season, and the go straight to the OVAs. Those are great and the very essence of the manga that Clamp had intended. The second season is just a waste of time considering that it ends with a filler arc that's counterintuitive to the manga.

Stop watching it and just read the manga if it bothers you. Personally, I enjoyed both but that's just the difference between you and I. Don't make yourself suffer like that.
