I love the fact that I have access to a portion of the new anime coming out of Japan through CR. I have been kind of disappointed that there have been no new anime that seems to be worth my time this season (this is somewhat OK since I still have Yowapeda, Kill la Kill, and Ippo) and was wondering if there are any shows the rest of the people on the boards could advise me to get into?

I watched the first episode of Sonico and...yeah...trash anime. (if only they made a show about her manager)

So what have you guys been watching this season and why?

I my self have got into several of the new animes this year, here is some and why:

Hamatara: because it has an interesting theme and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Pilot's love song: it has an interesting love story plus everyones favorite.. Traumatizing back story! XD

Wizards barristers: I think it an interesting concept so far and I like the idea of wizard lawyers

Magical Warfare: seems like a good story line though at moment not sure where it going yet.

Nisekoi: I my self enjoy a good romance comedy, and this one has made me laugh, but still not sure how it gonna turn out.

But as for repeats hands down log horizon has been my top fav, that and naruto

Here's my impressions I posted on a-suki of the shows I'm watching now that I'm 2/3 episodes in:

Carryovers from Fall 2013:
Kill La Kill
Gundam Build Fighters
Log Horizon
Nagi no Asukara
Samurai Flamenco

Solid shows:
Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda - By far the most impressive show of the new season. Excellent production values and sound quality. Incredible character designs and fairly good voice acting. The direction and atmosphere of the first 2 episodes are amazing. It truly exemplifies the 'show, don't tell' approach of storytelling and world building that I'm a big supporter of. The topic matter and characters are quite silly but the way it's presented just works. The humor is fairly funny and a lot of the jokes are interesting original takes on fairly overdone tropes.

Space Dandy: The show with the best (and most insane) animation this season. Humor is hit or miss depending on your tastes (a lot of the jokes are definitely more geared toward western humor). The show is worth watching just to see the animation alone, but it's also incredibly funny for me too.

Tonari no Seki-kun: Incredibly original and hilarious short.

Shows that have a lot of potential:
Buddy Complex: The first episode would be a standard Gundam hijack opener if not for the time travel plot device. The designs are all a bit uninspired (pretty much all copies of various Gundam characters and mechs). However, the mecha battles themselves are incredibly well directed and animated. The mechs also dog fight like jets, which is a style that we don't see very often in mech battles. Although all the characters and situations are fairly cliche, the development has been sprinkled with bits of originality and subversion. The time travelling plot line looks like will be a focus too. Definitely a series that's getting better each episode by focusing on its strengths.

Wizard Barristers: The show with the 2nd or 3rd best animation this season with some 'sakuga' scenes. The courtroom scenes are a bit too silly but I kind of expected Ace Attorney level of shenanigans so it doesn't bother me too much. As long as the animation quality doesn't drop and they keep on delivering more 'sakuga' animation I'll keep following it.

Wake Up, Girls!: This show is...different. It's the most talked about show in 2chan for a reason. The hand drawn dance animations are a plus (I really didn't like the CG dances in Love Live!) and I'm looking forward to the hardships the girls will face. Yamakan being attached to this series will just make it a rollercoaster (for better or worse).

Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta: Reminds me of Last Exile, which is enough of by itself, though the animation quality is really terrible. The characters started out really bland but they're getting more interesting. I also spoiled myself on some of the novel spoilers and it's actually made me more curious as to how certain character interactions will turn out.

Shows that I'll watch as long as they stay somewhat entertaining:
Sakura Trick: Somewhat shocking first episode due to all the kissing which I did not expect. The 2nd episode wasn't nearly as funny though. If it doesn't return to at least the first episode's level of humor I'll probably drop this.

No-rin: Basically Baka Test at an agricultural school. The female lead's personality also turned out to be kind of a surprise, and is a good foil for the stupidity of the rest of the cast. The humor is 'stupid funny'.

Strange+: Another show that's 'stupid funny', but also kind of insane. Not a bad way to spend 3 minutes each week as long as the show keeps it up.

Shows that are on the edge of the cutting block:
Nisekoi: Shaft is doing a really good job making the source material look a LOT better than it is. I think they need to animate some of the funnier chapters to keep my interest though, as I know the story and characters are going nowhere.

Hamatora: It's the only show I'm watching on Tuesdays, so it has a lot of leeway. It hasn't been too exciting and the plot developments aren't that interesting. The biggest weakness is that the two main leads are incredibly bland.

D-Frag: The first 2 episodes didn't make that much of an impact on me. It had some funny moments but when it's not funny it just kind of drags, especially without any kind of interesting underlying plot. I'm also watching 3 other shows on Monday that I find far more interesting so it's highly likely I'll just fall behind on this show and then eventually drop it.

Nobunagaun: It had some interesting bits here and there so far, but hasn't made much of an impression past the initial surprises. The actions scenes aren't particularly great either. It's a Sunday show though, so I'll only drop it if I get bored with it.

Nobunaga the Fool: Not a big fan of Kawamori's work. I have alot of problems with the show but some of the ridiculous developments keep me somewhat interested in seeing what happens next. Again, a Sunday show so I'm not too picky as I have a lot of free time on the weekends.

Onee-chan ga Kita: It's hard to argue with a 3 minute show, but it's not particularly interesting either aside from the cuteness.

Mahou Sensou: Watching just to see how bad it'll turn out to be.

Personally, the only new show I can really recommend to anyone would be Toaru Hikuushi he no Koiuta, not sure what they have it as on CR, but it translates to something like A lovesong to a certain pilot. That one is basically like if you mixed a bit of gundam drama in with a Last Exile type plot and setting. So what I am saying is it is a bit of a cheesier version of Last Exile. Still interesting to watch though.

Also Silver Spoon season 2, but that's not really new since it is season 2.

All the other new shows this season that I have seen are really really cheesy and you absolutely need to be a hardcore anime fan to enjoy them. By cheesy I mean they have plots that feel like they were inspired by fanfiction or something.

Everyone has differing tastes... what I love as Anime you could easily hate with a passion, and vice versa.

That said I am keeping up with mostly everything so far on CR, I think I have only dropped 3 of the new season shows.

I'm also keeping up with ... 2 of the shows I think of FUNi.

Anyway my recommendations (without going super in detail about the series) based by what I practically religiously watch this season:
Chuu2 (loved the first season to death, love this season to death)
Sakura Trick (Yuri, I didn't need any more reason to watch or love)
Engaged to the Unidentified (an interesting so far rom-com)
D-Frag (doing pretty well against the manga)
Nisekoi (though i'm worried about Shaft in charge, along with rumors of short length of series, it is keeping to the Manga which I love, so i'm sticking with it)
The Pilots Love Song (another good romance/im not sure what else, but definitely romance)
Seitokai Yakuindomo Season 2 (Loved the first season, and well i'm perverted anyway)

Also some shout outs would go to:
Sekai Sefuku
Wizard Barristers
Tonari no Seki-kun

Everything else I am watching... but it isn't hitting any vibes as much as the ones I can't wait to see every week. But I am still watching (other than like 3 of them) so it's not that they are bad necessarily. But as stated, everyone has different tastes.

Surprisingly enough, this show is quite entertaining and decent. It even follows the manga faithfully so far and the main protagonist is very fun to watch. Action seems to a bit blend but I think that will change soon when new characters are introduced.

This could be dark horse of the season. Noragami...

'a bit blend'? ><

/jerk mode off.

Yeah I think Noragami is the sleeper. The other one would be WitchCraftWorks, but that seems to entirely be a LOVE/HATE!!! kind of show, nobody's middle of the road about it.

In comparison, everyone who talks about noragami seems to love it.

Noragami has this really dope OST; sounds like it's mixed with autotune in it. The show is pretty entertaining, but i just hate how the cast treats the MC. It get's pretty annoying at times, and i hope they stop treating him as a sort of punching-bag because he's cool and funny.

Other good shows this season?
If your not watching Golden Time from last season, i would suggest you do now...stop reading this and go. lmao
That's really the only show i can highly recommend from last season...maybe Nagi no Asukara. Kuroko as well, but you have to watch the previous season.

This season, Space Dandy seems to be on top for me since it's really fun and the characters are great.
Maken-Ki! 2, but only if you watch the previous season and like silly harem shows with fun characters.
Nobunagun...i really like this show and i like the pace it's going at.
Nourin is also really fun to watch.

Sonico's fine for what it is. :c

Nonbunaga the Fool just damn intense, I don't know why but it's just become one of my favorite anime's this season.

Chuu2 for obvious reasons.

And Nobunagun feels like Kill La Kill all over again :c Still cool.
