I really enjoyed Log Horizon for the fact it reminded me of back when I played early Everquest. It seems to have captured the feel that was present back then, that was lost with the newer MMOs

If Log Horizon reminds you of EverQuest that's because the writer was an Everquest player back in the day. He understood the atmosphere of a MMORPG unlike Reki Kawahara who admits he was never really a high level player.

That is rather awesome. Thanks for letting me know

How 'bout neither and go full on Accel World?

...no seriously. For me, Accel World is the middle ground between SAO and LH. It has the dynamic and cool action scenes of SAO but explains the setting and mechanics of its primary game similar to LH, although it's not quite as anal about it. And the main character isn't a bombastic Gary Sue, has character flaws, and actually develops to a different person by the show's end.

It has its problems, obviously, but for me it's a good meeting point for SAO and LH fans.

Also, I have been reading SAO Progressive LNs. I'm only about a third of the way through but Vol 2 but based on what I've read thus far...yeah, this is LEAGUES better then what the anime delivered. To the point that all it does is prove that the initial iteration of the Aincrad arc was horribly put together. Because we're going floor to floor, it's better paced, Asuna regularly interacts with Kirito so by design we actually are getting development on their relationship and get to witness it as the audience (even though thus far the LNs have been making me like Asuna less then I already did...but that's another story).

And considering there's quite a bit more about explaining SAO and the mechanics of the game, methinks that even Kawahara is conceding that the LH method is the way to go.

Log Horizon. It's just a better anime on almost every level. I don't like SAO at all but then again I'm not a huge fan of the whole trapped in a game thing. I'd take SAO any day over Phantasy Star Online 2 though. Ughh! Now that is a bad one. Makes me appreciate SAO even more lol.

Log Horizon is the better experence but is not really worth rewatching due to the overloaded cast and the story structure trying to follow 3 storylines at the same time with each having their own filler parts. LH2 I stopped at the 3 raid bosses part due to it just being boring.

SAO is generally the one I go back to watch due to it having much better pacing, action scenes and generally getting things done without much filler.

.hack//dusk(legend of the twilight) is the one I most enjoy. Granted for most of the show trapped in a VG isn't a thing though.
