Well like I said, I'll come here and point out any new things i watch that are worth a look. But I think I'll also point out some older stuff, just for fun.

Like...
The World God Only Knows
Another(Essentially "Final Destination the Anime")
Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World)
OreImo

Those are good oldies that you should check out. I think almost everyone knows about The World God Only Knows, and OreImo(My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute) but the other 2 are very interesting and worth a watch.

Although with Shin Sekai Yori, they have some weird episodes where they like, change the animators/artists for that episode and it looks like shit. But it doesn't stick.

Oh, and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Dramatic Comedy.

A Sparklie* and a Digital Haunter here~! (I made the DH logo! Yaaay)

Funny, I joined CR for forums and didn't know there was anime at first, ahaha~ ^^;

As for the recommendations, I tend to like the older, recently out of fashion stuff~

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is an anime adaptation of a manga. It's rarely mentioned, but has a great little story spanning 6 episodes.
Some more recent anime worth noting are 'K' and 'Kowarekake no Orgel' The first being an anime about a student being accused of murdering a gang member, and the second being a movie about an old humanoid robot.

Adding in some music, Stereopony broke up years ago, but their music is still great. 'The Best of Stereopony' is a great CD/DVD

I'd throw in more, but I don't want to flood my post with stuff >< Nice to see the community expand~

You mentioned shoutouts, so just in case, I am over at @Taka_Sakagami on Twitter (Hey, I might get lucky >.>)

One that I think you should give a try is the Hunter X Hunter remake if you haven't already seen it. It is pretty well done, but a bit slow until you get past the introductory arc. The characters are good and no blatant fan service for no reason going on. The battles are intense and the show is great at building hipe, especially in the current arc. The characters are quite well developed as well.
A new one that just started up you might want to try out is Nobunaga the Fool. The over-the-topness of the setting and storyline are interesting. It is pretty much 15 century combined with mechs, historical figures, and spaceships. The outrageousness of the story is quite funny if nothing else.
Another one you could try is Log Horizon. It is another one of those VRMMORGPs animes, but it is a bit different. It is a bit more diplomatically focused than others in the genre. It deals more with the understanding of the world rather than trying to destroy it to escape. The main character is a bit different in some ways, but still cool in his more 'strategist' like role.
I think you would enjoy the first one, but the other ones I am not as sure about. Might give them a try if you have time.

I vaguely remember Akira from my childhood (yes, I watched Akira as a child), and that was quite cool. Probably scarred me for life, but the internet has done enough of that anyway.

I'll second Fate/Zero and Monogatari. The first episode of Fate/Zero is more or less a big infodump and setup for the rest of the story, so it may or may not take some more episodes for you to get hooked. As for Monogatari, it's weird. Like, really weird. A lot of people love it, some people dislike it, and some people don't know what to do with it. It's basically a romance, comedy, supernatural, mystery, kind-of-harem series, with a very weird/interesting, depending on your own tastes, visual style. It also references Japanese folklore quite a bit, Bakemonogatari in particular, which can seem off-putting, and though it may help, it's definitely not needed for understanding the series.

As for recommendations, i recommend Mushishi and Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru, or OreGairu as it's more widely known.

Mushishi is an episodic series, revolving around various incidents concerning creatures called mushi, small beings with very close ties to life itself. The only constant thing in the series, is the mushishi, Ginko, who travels around and helps people who've becoem involved with the mushi.

OreGairu's premise is more similar to many other series, in that it takes place in highschool and is a romantic comedy. The best thing about the series however, is the very sharp dialogue and the main characters inner monologues, which takes the series above and beyond the standard highschool anime fare.

Hope you find something to your liking

Babymetal. An idol/metal group that is lead by three girls named Su-metal, Moa-metal, and Yui-metal. They are all under the age if 15! As strange and crazy as it is, it works..

I used to do that in a Notepad file until I found Crunchyroll~ They eventually removed the watched anime list feature so I had to move to Anime-Planet...
