Is religion that power like in the old days? Does it effect how we think and act?
Discuss.

Well in the old days, the catholic church grew rich and powerful and people were afraid of them. That's why there are split groups e.g. Orthodox, United Church, Church of England....etc

How does it effect how we act, rules (commandments, laws) and think (beliefs)? Some people where born Catholics and they grew up as Catholics. Meaning following the laws/rules/commandments of there beliefs or religion.

The only instance I've Seen is when people don't realy make decisions for themselves. My example is José Luis de Jesús Miranda church Growing in grace.

you are incorrect here. the other groups of christianity came about at different times and for vastly different reasons. ill name a few you did.

Orthodoxy developed long before the "catholic church". it split off between 200 and 400 ad (i dont remember exactly when) over the first great schism. it was caused due to many factors, the largest of which being the belief in the pope. the orthodox church does not have a head, a center, a "next to jesus, harbinger of god" type. they havent for centuries. a few other reasons are transubstansiation and the holy trinity. ask a well-versed orthodox christian sometime.

the Chuch of England split because, well, the king of england disagreed with the pope, and would be excommunicated if he divorced his wife. Henry was a bit crazy by that point, but that is beside the point.

now, for religion taking over. no, it isnt. it is actually somewhat on the decline. it doesnt seem it in america, at all, but places like japan and scandinavia, it is far less than it once was. it does, however, pervade our thoughts. our laws and morals are largely based on religion, sadly. although i personally dont adhere to many of them (respect thy mother and father? respect is earned, fuck that), the majority of the would does to some degree, be it abrahamic religions or not.

actually, studies show that 90% of all kids under 18 lose faith once they get into college so a couple decades from now, Christianity will almost be gone...

well religion to much is pretty much a joke since they say if you choose to do something god made you do it and got has everything planned out for you even though i could just say that i was the one who was actually planning it out and i made you do what you did

once most people start realizing this christianity will be no more and religion wont take over

Of course morals & laws are based on religion, the religions .. principles are based on common sense

o w8.... i didn't read it properly. religion is definitely NOT controlling us like it did in the past... if we were as devoted to religion as the old days, we would be called walking priests
