"Alright, just give me a second" Saya said as she set down her pack and pulled out a large dark tarp quickly covering the canyon beasts corpse with it and then stepping back to inspect her work, during the night the creature's corpse covered int he black tarp looked almost invisible "Good, that should do it... at least until dawn, so what way are we heading?"
"This way" Sango said pointing back through the town with his arm "You can tell me about this other Shinzo on the way back
"There isn't really much to tell, I don't remember much about him anyways it was a long time ago after all" Saya said "although I cant remember his name, his swordplay and personality are still pretty clear in my mind, he himself was kind, honest, and trustworthy, and his sword play was beautiful but deadly, I've only seen a few fighting styles that I would praise so highly"
"Anything else about him?" Sango asked
"mmm, if I could, I would like to meet him again I guess. Ah, but... its not like that, I mean, you know, maybe trade some more stories about our adventures together" Saya said "He was a very interesting man after all"
"Was?" Sango said
"Uh-huh, it was a long time ago after all, maybe he is still alive though, who knows" Saya said with a bright smile

Sango looked at Saya and her smile, “I’m afraid that is impossible…” began Sango, “The entire Shinzo Clan is dead, I’m the only surviving member” said Sango with a grim look on his face. Saya looked at Sango in shock; “They are…” began Saya as she lowered her head, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know” said Saya as she bowed her head apologetically. “It’s fine, it happened a long time ago when I was just a boy” said Sango as he went back to his usual carefree expression. They spent the next few minutes walking in silence until Sango saw Kyle in the distance, “Kyle!!” yelled Sango as they approached him. Sango saw they he was standing next to a large hole that looked like it went pretty deep, “This what you wanted to show me?” said Sango as he glanced at Kyle.

"Yeah..." Kyle asked, arching an eyebrow when he saw Saya.
Sango introduced both of them to each other. "Saya hunted a canyon beast by herself, so I thought I'd invite her along." Sango said cheerfully.
Kyle nodded at her as she said brightly, "Nice to meet ya. So whats this?"
"Im guessing this will lead us right to the lair." Kyle said. He kicked a rock in and there was a good moment of silence before they heard a sound.
"Its deep."
"And pitch black, " Sango said peering down. "Looks fun."
Kyle grinned and jumped. After a moment, they heard his voice from further down though there was no thud, indicating his landing, "What are you waiting for?"
Sango chuckled and jumped, landing a moment later. He looked up at Saya, "You can rest or come along with us."

Saya looked into the hole, her eye's moving around as if she was observing something and then she quickly jumped into the hole, but instead of just falling she jumped from side to side on the wall latching onto the side of the wall for a second before jumping downwards and to the other side, he hands and feet easily finding places to hold onto as if she knew where they were before hand, before long she was at the bottom.
"Couldn't take the jump in one go?" Kyle joked
"You boy's just have no elegance" Saya joked backed
"Im more interested in how quickly you found those foot holds, it is pitch black down here" Sango said
"I can see better than most in the dark, though probably not as well as those canyon beasts" Saya said "So it may be a good idea to get some sort of light source out"

Sango felts around the ground, whatever burrowed this hole was quite large, but very messy, so there were many pieces of wood and stone lying around. Sango picked up a thick piece of wood and a cloth from the ground and in then made the cloth burst into a small flame, lighting up the area significantly. Sango looked around the area with a torch, “I guess there is only one way to go” said Sango as he walked ahead. Looking at the walls, Sango noticed very think claw marks the entire way they walked. “Whatever dug this tunnel, I don’t think it was one of those Canyon Beasts, it looked like it was something bigger, and a lot stronger” said Sango as he glanced back at Kyle and Saya.

"Seems it eats just about anything," Kyle said as he followed Sango and Saya, observing the bones littered around the tunnel. They ranged from animals to humans of all sizes. They had walked a little distance when they heard noises from behind them.
"Ah man," Kyle said, annoyed. "They dont know when to give up, do they?"
Sure enough, a minute later, a group of five men walked down the hole after them, holding torches.
"Hiya mates!" The leader said brightly. "Fancy seeing you all down here."
"Yeah, fancy that." Kyle drawled, cocking an eyebrow slightly.
"Well, guess we're on the same route." The leader said and then looked around the tunnel. "Woah, so a beast really dug a tunnel this big, yeah?"
"That is our guess, yes." Sango said and then added kindly, "I think you all better turn back. This is no place for guys like you."
The leader looked annoyed, "Save the sermon. We can look after ourselves." He nodded at the men and they took off ahead of these three.
Kyle shook his head and said to Sango, "Did anyone ever tell you you're too nice for your own good?"
"Once or twice. Mostly you and Nina." Sango said with a smile then held up his torch, "Shall we?" He walked on with Kyle and Saya following him.
"Have you traveled to the Canyons before?" Kyle asked Saya.
As Saya looked at Kyle, she noticed his shadow falling on the tunnel wall were twisting and taking odd shapes before dissolving. The shapes looked distinctly sinister and menacing.
Catching her glance, Kyle looked at his shadow then said, "Don't mind them. They won't harm you."
"What are they?"
"Creatures from the dark realm." Kyle said. "Youma, demons and the like."
"Kyle's a summoner." Sango said by way of explanation.
"Ah."
"And you?" Kyle asked her.

"An Archer" Saya said "Though I guess it a bit more than just that, Im one of the Wind Sage's from the Wind Clan, I walk the path of the Spell Weaver" Saya explained "So besides just archery i'm also able to use Wind and lighting spells"
"That could come in handy" Kyle said
"As for this hole, any guesses on what it could have been? You two don't seem to think it was Canyon beasts, but they do live in large colony's and dig long tunnels, though I never herd about them digging right into a town and then abandoning the tunnel..." Saya said
"Colony's?" Kyle asked
"Think of them like ants, the reason they can be so dangerous isn't necessarily because any one of them are strong, but because they hunt in large packs, and they live in even larger packs. Hunting packs tend to be about 5-15 large while colony's can range anywhere from 20 all the way to 100 plus" Saya explained
"You seem to know a lot" Kyle said 'Where did you get your information?"
"Apparently she hunts them" Sango said "I found her wrestling a carcass of one back in the town"
'I've been hunting them for a few months now, about 2 of those month's was pure observation, so I got to learn a lot about them, they are my prey after all" Saya said

Sango stopped at a split in the cave, one went straight on the path they were on and the other went down, further underground. Sango closed his eyes and was still for a second, “I sense well over a hundred beings on the path we are going, most likely the Canyon Beasts” said Sango as he motioned forward. He turned to the other path, “But down there, I sense something quite large…and angry…I think whatever is down there is probably what dug this tunnel” said Sango as he turned to Kyle and Saya. “Both are a threat to the town, though the one down there is quite a bit more powerful than any of the Canyon Beasts over there, so how should we deal with this?” asked Sango, Kyle looked at the path leading down, “I'll take whatever is down this path, after all, you are better with numbers then I am” said Kyle to Sango. Sango nodded and looked at Saya, “You can go with either one of us, you know the most about the Canyon Beasts, but whatever is down that passage is a lot stronger, you would be an asset to either side” said Sango as he turned towards the original path.

"I think me and Sango would be the best choice to take out the nest" Saya said "So ill go with you"
"Take the nest out? there are over a hundred of them, are you sure you can handle yourself in such close quarters?" Sango asked and Saya nodded
"I don't think we should take them head on anyways, and there nest is like a labyrinth of underground tunnels and caverns, I personally think we would get overwhelmed if we tried to kill them all" Saya pointed out
"So what do you plan on doing then? you did say you tend to take the nest out" Kyle asked
"We kill they're queen and burn they're eggs, I saw you light that cloth earlier, you do have some ability to use fire right Sango Shizno?" Saya asked
"I do, but why not just kill the queen?" Sango asked
"After there queen dies one of the eggs will naturally birth a new queen, if we kill both the queen and burn the eggs the Canyon Beast will leave this area." Saya said "It's probably not the best long term solution, but its still a solution for this area. So what do you say? Shall we take a shot at it?"

Kyle took the other path, heading further down underground. There was a faint hiss of murmuring whispers as shadows wrapped around him, before merging with his own. His eyes glowed silver and both his senses and reflexes sharpened dramatically as a result.
Up ahead, he heard them before he saw them and sighed.
The light of their torch came into view first, followed by the 3 men from the earlier team.
"How long is this tunnel going to go on?" One was groaning.
They jumped when they saw Kyle, "Oh its you, " Another said, relieved then snapped. "Following us, are ya?"
Kyle looked at skyward in exasperation then said, "Outta my way, " Kyle said.
The men yelled as they were seized by an invisible force and tossed aside as Kyle walked past.
"H-hey!" one said, staggering to his feet. "Take us with you!"
They hurried after Kyle as he walked on, eventually approaching an opening to a cavern. He stepped through then stopped, all his senses on full alert. He scanned the cavern quickly but didn't see anything. He closed his eyes and concentrated.
The men tumbled in after him.
"Quiet!" Kyle hissed.
Through the darkness, a shape materialized. The next instant, screams filled the cavern.

Vines snapping and clicking filled the cavern, coming forth at lightning speed. Kyle rammed into two of the men to his left, throwing them off the course of the vines, but one of the men, further to his back, got pierced right through the leg. He was lifted screaming into the air.
Kyle yelled out a command in a strange language and the air shifted as eight, large, shadowy creatures materialized. The creatures were distinctly demonic and upon their summoning, launched themselves at the vines. The man was dropped as one of the creatures latched on the vine, biting down hard.
Another creature caught the man and without a word bounded out the tunnel. "Go!" Kyle said , giving the other two men a push towards the tunnel. They took off, tripping and scrambling.
The vines launched themselves again and Kyle dodged before, slamming down a knife hard on the vine, stopping it in its tracks.
He noticed the thorns on the sides, which the plant used to move the vines forward.
Suddenly, the vines retreated at a fast pace, almost disappearing inside a black tunnel.
The summons around him turned to smoke and zoomed off after the strange plant with Kyle, moving at a blur, right behind them.

Sango walked down the tunnel, which twisted and turned quite a bit compared to the straight tunnel they were just walking. Eventually, they reached a maze of tunnels, but with the combination of Saya’s knowledge of the Canyon Beast’s patterns and Sango’s ability to sense the direction they were most concentrated, they made it through the tunnels with ease. They reached the nest, which was a huge forest made from the roots of the trees above. Growing on the roots was some sort of glowing fungus, which perfectly illuminated the nest, it was so bright, and Sango and Saya had to let their eyes adjust due to them spending the last couple hours underground. It appeared the Canyon Beast’s didn’t know they were there. The queen lay at the bottom of the nest; she was enormous, even compared to the normal Canyon Beasts. The eggs hung from sacs that were attached to the wall, each one was just smaller than a normal human. Sango looked at Saya, “I’ll create a distraction and take out the eggs, you handle the queen” said Sango, Saya nodded and Sango jumped out from the tunnel into the nest and without even a twitch from him, flame erupted from the ground and completely covered the walls, engulfing all of the eggs and any of the Canyon Beasts that hung on the walls. This caused the remaining beasts to go insane and rush Sango, who created a barrier of flames around himself. Sango shot Saya and glance, a signal for her to go and take out the queen.

Saya, slowing her breathing, closed her eye's as if to meditate as she slowly notched an arrow and pulled the string back on her bow, her breathing now balanced and calm she slowly opend her eye's, her vision solely focused on her target.
"Any time now" Sango said

Saya, now deep in concentration herd nothing but the sound of the wind blowing through the tunnels as she aimed for perfection in her kill shot "Fly true" Saya uttered this single phrase as she let loose the arrow, for the split second that the arrow flew through the air Saya stayed still as if observing her work and then a cry of agony filled the cavern as several of the beasts tried charging through the fire to see what was wrong with there queen, but it was already to late, the queen's dead body was slowly starting to burn up int he flames that had finally reached her.
"Nice shot, now lets go" Sango said
"Agreed" Saya quickly slung her bow over her shoulder and turned around bolting away from the scene, Sango running behind her, but that soon changed.

As the two continued to run Saya herd a "UWAH!" From behind her turning around to only see a hole where Sango had been standing just a moment before, she tried to remember if she had just jumped over the hole and forgot to warn Sango, but quickly dismissed the notion, Sango was a very capable warrior, there was no way simple hole would be his undoing, but she herself soon learned the answer as she felt something grab her ankle and yank her down. Herself now, disappearing in a hole that seemed to have appeared out of no where.

Kyle jumped back as the massive creature fell to the ground. The whole cavern seemed to shake as a result.
It was a plant, though to call it just that seemed to do it injustice. It was more like a carnivorous creature which had taken on the shape of a massive, meat eating plant.
"This was the creature that was attacking the towns people. Geez " Kyle shook his head and kicked one of the tentacles away from him. He walked around it making sure it was dead. He then looked up at the 8 creatures which stood at various positions around the cavern. Some crouched and growling others eerily silent. He nodded and one by one they vanished except for one.
"Take me back," He said.
The creature turned into a shadow which wrapped around Kyle and then he vanished.

A dark symbol formed at the top of the hole near where they had jumped in and Kyle appeared on top of it. The creature bowed and then disappeared. He looked around but didn't see anyone. "Seems those people ran away. And Sango and that girl arent back yet." He said to himself.
A light breeze was blowing and Kyle raised up his face to it and took it a deep breath. "That feels good." He said. "Now to wait for Sango and Saya." he thought as he walked over to a bench by the fountain and lay down. Soon, he dozed off.

the sound of dripping water soon crept itself into Kyle's dreams as he stirred in his sleep slowly opening his eye's, the bright morning sun bathing the ruined town in its orange and yellow glow. Kyle groaned and sat up rubbing his eye's "Must have fallen asleep" he mumbled and looked around his eyes soon landing on a cloaked individual, though for some reason his mind seemed to try and refuse the fact the individual was even there.

Aventh calming put the vial of water samples he had just collected form the fountain and looked over at Kyle, who had just woken up. Aventh stood there observing for a moment, the man, kyle, had a hand on his head, Kyle's eyes glued to Aventh as he was trying to resist the enchantment Aventh had place don his cloak. After the short observation Aventh unhooded himself and took his goggles off "Hello" he said to Kyle who almost immediately shook his head, the spell over his mind that the enchanted cloak had placed over him disappearing "You must have a very strong mental endurance to be able to resist my cloaks invisibility enchantment, are you perhaps a mage of sorts?"
