I'm sad that the harem end option is so uncommon

An ending where all the girls (or guys if you're into reverse harems) get their happy ending and they all live happily ever after.

Why? Why does this almost never happen? Why must people who make anime or manga or light novels make it so that this almost never happens? (At least visual novels for the most part have this option). Why even make it part of the harem genre if you're not willing to go all the way with the idea? What is the point of the harem genre then if it doesn't get resolved through this path?!

Forget societal norms and finger wagging for a moment as reasons why (from all the sh!t seen in anime, polygamy should be the least of any one's worries lol). Don't even say its not realistic, it's freakin anime yo, the author can pull whatever sh!t he or she wants to make the ending work...Fujimura-kun Mates, what every harem anime needs to aspire too lol.

Let's look at how it usually goes. Protagonist most likely has sister/cousin. Most likely has childhood friend. Throw in random new girl. Throw in another new transfer student girl. Throw in one who was already in the school. They're all head over heels for him. And how does it end? The author done goofs and makes it so that "durrrr I can't pick any of you" or some other BS that makes it so that there is no resolution aka indecisive end where no one wins or in some cases loses. Open ending? Don't piss off any of the fans who might not have their girl win? Bro, harem end solves all that. For some reason they always want to maintain the status quo, never changing any of their relationships.

See, the route above is practically the most common. No girl wins. Hell, I'd have been satisfied if at least some one won.
But nope.

Sugu, you know exactly what that means ->

Well for one, from a writer's perspective it is very attractive to leave room for a sequel to the original series. The problem with writing a decisive end is that you are basically writing yourself into a corner, just one that the audience approves of.

Assuming you go with a harem, what then? You basically have the main portion of School Days (a show that DID choose the harem ending, and who's ending is a good soliloquy for a bad harem).

Of all the harems that I have seen, I think the best one is The World God Only Knows, because it handled the 'After' part well (they forget), and still managed to make all of the girls interesting.

A GOOD harem ending is hard to do, and not necessarily worth it.

Why have that ending when another School Day's ending could happen instead?

I've always considered TWGOK a rom-com (step by step harem) because not enough girls at the same time love him (because like you said, they're made to forget).

I only consider the current

I like harem ends as well. I mean best girl can't lose in any way.

Personally, I dislike the idea of a harem ending. Something feels missing to me. The mere act of not choosing makes me feel as though the protagonist doesn't really love any of them. It makes everything feel fake an breaks my suspension of disbelief. Just my personal feelings on the matter.

I'd rather see a character I dislike win or a character I like lose than see a harem ending. At least in that scenario, I can imagine the character moving on to a better love interest who will appreciate him or her. However, in the harem ending I feel like all the characters are locked in with someone who doesn't appreciate any of them.

That's just me, though. Unless your talking about a "friendship" harem, or something like that. I'm fine with that. I'd rather see everyone lose than everyone win. Maybe i'm just petty lol

EDIT - Just for the record, i'm also pro-Suguha...

Suffle! The last harem anime I remember seeing where one girl wins over the others. Photo Kano also ended at episode 6 for me. lol

I liked Sugu better as well. >.>

Just one more reason for why I can't wait for Trinity Seven: 7-Nin no Mahoutsukai to get an anime.

Makoto was a great example of what happens when you make a douchecanoe who does not care for any of the girls at all the lead.

I can respect your view.
On the other hand, friendship harems where no wins or loses are what I hate most in this genre. To me, it just means the protagonist is either dense like a black hole or that none of the girls had any chance any way and it was all a futile effort to try.

The best girl debates for Trinity Seven are going to be nuclear.

(And I'm Team Asuna.)

I hope Trinity Seven stays on course for a harem end. ^ I mean it's obvious Lilith is lead girl and I've been burned so many times where a harem seemed to be in reach only for it to be dashed from right in front of me.

Arata, lead us to the promised harem land.
