There was an atheist couple who had a child. The couple never told their daughter anything about the Lord. One night when the little girl was 5 years old, the parents fought with each other and the dad shot the Mom, right in front of the child. Then, the dad shot! himself. The little girl watched it all.

She then was sent to a foster home. The foster mother was a Christian and took the child to church. On the first day of Sunday School, the foster mother told the teacher that the girl had never heard of Jesus, and to have patience with her. The teacher held up a picture of Jesus and said, "Does anyone know who this is?" The little girl said, "I do, that's the man who was holding me the night my parents died."

It's strange, because the general arguments that atheists traditionally bring up; specifically are stories of horror and misery, and in particular, the sufferings of people to try to dismiss religions. Isn't that using situations for your own ends?

Just a thought, not a particular stab. I am not here to quarrel. This would go in circles, because since no man can clearly prove anything otherwise in physics, science and logic since religions are about faith and faith is about believing without the need for scientic proof (a skeptic mind demands evidence), let us stick with our own perceptions.

Just one last comment before I'm done: About human suffering:

The most popular idea that scholars employ now is the idea of Marxism. Specifically, human suffering is caused at the hands of others. The idea of power oppression and misusing authority gives rise to suffering. Another kind of suffering is at the hands of natural disasters, which very quickly, will be used by people to manipulate into their desired outcomes.

Man cannot manuveur natural disasters or control their appearances, but we can study it and try to prevent it. That's how man makes do with circumstances beyond them. What ultimately matters is the ones who have economic and social power over others, they get to control situations to their desires and wants. Those under are those who have to work within their circumstances. The only difference is that Man is man, and can be changed. Power positions can be usurped. Thrones can be overthrown. Much of man's sufferings are at the hands of man themselves, therefore it is difficult to just say that religions play a large part in sufferings, directly or indirectly.

Marxists believe that religions are the 'opium of the masses', their stance is that of a rather rational form. While keeping focus on oppression and pain, they overlook people in religious institutes with the idea of hope.(actually, I rather dislike speaking on behalf of all religions, because there are religions in my opinion are poisoning people's trust while actually leeching their finances, but because to be put across to an atheist, all religions sound poisonous so it doesn't matter) Man can help to reduce sufferings by changing their circumstances to improve their immediate situations, or religions according to marxists help them 'accept their fate'.

But Christianity is not about acceptance of 'Fate' (which is a buddhist and confucious term), it's about actually going through difficult circumstances with God, knowing that Hope Himself is always with them. If children of God were to accept our fate, then it's basically acknowledging that God has no control over situations, or won't do anything other than existing, or that God watches his ants struggle in water and die. That does not make sense, because he sent his son down to redeem with all he has just for 'ants'?

Where I definitely agree that some religions use sad events to contrast and compare to make their ideas seem more attractive, I question their motives. Anything apart from love is selfishness and is not God. So called religious institutes use the name of whatever God they can get to gain indiv profit is fake. Whereas the account that neowoofer gave sounds suspiciously like an email circulation style, nevertheless, if you consider the possibility of Jesus doing something like that, is highly possible, at least to Christians. He did promise to be with us no matter what sort of shit we are in. Even if the given situation is proved false, it would not deter my faith that Jesus will be with his children to pull through and be delivered OUT of their circumstances. That's the Jesus we believe in, not the Jesus of a particular circumstance we believe in. Jesus doesn't come with 'settings' and 'situations'. He's not there, only at a certain hour or time period with conditions to first be fulfiled. Jesus we know, is there ALWAYS.

I have a song about this in my profile... such a sad song but a good lesson... the Lord is always with us even if we don't know it...

Here's the lyrics to the song... It's like the story.

The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery

Her parents never took the young girl to church
Never spoke of His name
Never read her His word
Two non-believers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them
What a sad little girl

Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play
Or give kisses and hugs
She'd watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep
And her daddy went out

And the drinking and the fighting
just got worse every night
Behind their couch she'd be hiding
Oh what a sad little life

And like it always does, the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life

And some people from the city took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad
kisses and hugs everyday

Her first day of Sunday school the teacher walked in
And a small little girl
Stared at a picture of Him

She said I know that man up there on that cross
I don't know His name
But I know He got off

Cause He was there in my old house
and held me close to His side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died

At first I didn't know whether I could believe that story.. but dude, we so can! I've felt God hold me before and Jesus danced with me once. He IS there and there's not question about it! Dude, how I love him! I am so encouraged by other believers who are so passionant about Jesus! It's awesome!!

I heard of this. The song is one of my favoprites. I have it on 3 or 4 burnt cds. Jesus comes to all who need him even if they don't knwo of him. (esp children) That's what makes him the real god. I think this child will be blessed though her life if she stays with christ.
