SCHOOL DAYS!

...just kidding, i'm not a jackass like some others on here

seriously though, don't watch it. although I guess telling you not to watch it isn't going to work, just like with everyone else, so just decide whether to trust someone who already experienced the horror of how bad it was or not.

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Avoid Boku no Pico, no matter how much other people try to convince you otherwise.

I'd suggest:

Steins;Gate
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Be careful they aired it out of order because they are dweebs)
Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (A movie sequel to Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Clannad and its sequel After Story
Angel Beats

And while I haven't watched either, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Attack on Titan come highly recommended

I found a YouTuber will all of season one of Haruhi in, I think, the correct order of events. And it was all in one video as well so it was over 5 hours long :l

I added a few of the shows you mentioned to my queue. They sound not only interesting, but also as if they are a great place to start. I will start watching them.

Thanks!

I've seen a few people who mentioned "school days" in a half joking manor, so what is the deal with that series?

Crunchyroll apparently offers it, so should I dare to watch it?

i think they were all completely joking when they said to watch "school days"...although there may be some who like it -it's obviously made an affect on ppl, but i can say the same about human centipede or sharknadoes, so..
read the reviews before that.....please do

you're fresh, so you probably should most definitely steer clear from that one for a bit first, like how ppl were saying wait a little on gintama. actually wait on school days for A WHILE.

we want you to watch more anime, and IMO i think school days is DEF not a starter. like i stated read the reviews on any anime you're interested in; some are well written and you can see how many ppl found it helpful.
(spoilers are usually hidden in them, so don't worry to much on that)
when i first heard about school days i went to read the review, went back to my queue and went to watch more gintama.

For a good variety for what Crunchyroll offers I'd say Gintama, School Days, Attack on Titan, Angel Beats, Toradora, Kill La Kill, Durarara, Anohana (you will cry), Ruroni Kenshin, Bakemonogatari, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (it's not at all what it seems), Ano Natsu de Matteru, Usagi Drop, and Broken Blade.

It's a long list. But I honestly believe everyone can get into these anime. Give them all a try if you're serious about getting into the fandom.

Take what originally seems like a plain romance/harem heartthrob anime, then soak it in the blood of a thousand sacrificed virgin maidens, draw a chalk pentagram, light it on fire, and praise Satan.

Watch it, the gruesome end is what everyone is talking about.

Some of my recommendations which should keep you going for quite a while. You can always read the synopsis to see if you think you'll be interested before watching. You can always go to the link below and choose something based on popularity, updated anime or choose a genre. http://www.crunchyroll.com/videos/anime

Some of these may not be on Crunchyroll anymore, or don't start from the first episode or season of the anime, so you may have to source them elsewhere.

Naruto
Naruto Shippuuden
Bleach
Fairy Tail
Angel Beats
Log Horizon
Nagi No Asukara
Steins;Gate
Magical Warfare
BTOOOM!
Oreimo season 1 and 2
Kokoro Connect
Tari Tari
Soranowoto
One Piece

I honestly don't think you should start your journey off from the ending. Meaning, don't watch current Anime. You should instead get to know the classics, watch them, test the waters out and see what you like. A lot of anime now a days makes references quite often to older Anime's and if you don't catch those references then you're kind of like that kid who's not in on the inside joke. It also makes sense to start at the beginning, some of the newer anime might have better animation sure, but a lot of the storylines, plots, concepts, etc.. are all taken from previous Anime.

I came across this post on Tumblr, and I believe it's a good list to help you in what you're looking for.

Honestly, getting through ALL of these would take a couple years if you're casual about it. On top of that, I can't say that I absolutely loved every Anime listed, but there's a lot that have significant importance to Anime, it's history, and how it got to where it is today. The list this person made is also not perfect, it's missing out on a lot of good ones - Primarily Akira, which enrages me a bit. Akira helped redefine Anime, and Animation itself. To leave it out of this list, is kind of absurd to me, so make sure you check that one out for sure. Good luck, and welcome.
