The Log Horizon anime isn't as far along in the storyline as the manga, and the manga hits areas that the anime doesn't. This thread is for manga readers, and to help make sure the anime watchers aren't spoiled by manga discussions.

There's also a thread for the Light Novels at http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-837369/log-horizon-discussions, since it is different from the others as well!

What do you think of it? What do you hope to see in the anime? Where do you think the story will go next?

Ah dang, I wasn't even aware there was a Manga for LH, I knew there were some novels though. I'm guessing none of it is translated? Or atleast not legally?

This should be labeled more as for light novel as there are various alternations/version of the manga that completely isn't related to the current ongoing anime.

Anyways, I've been reading it and it follows it quite well but with more dialogues and narratives. The mechanics stays well for the majority of the run so far.

It's at the beginning of volume 4 with the anime so I assume it will cover the series by the end of volume 5, maybe.

Yeah, there isn't a manga, as far as I know. Just the light novels.

I just looked it up on Wiki, apparently there are actually 4 manga's tied to LH, 1 deals with the main plot, 3 deal with some side characters or something.

But best I can figure, the novels are clearly what most people talk about.

Actually there is a manga. It's more of a spin-off series revolving around the West Wind Brigade though.

None of the manga are licensed AFAIK. There are:
-- Log Horizon (main story)
-- LH: West Wind Brigade
-- LH: Honeymoon Stories
-- LH: Nyanta's Happy Recipes

I put them in order of "importance" I guess. WWB stuff is a good read, and Soujirou/WWB characters feature prominently in the story. Honeymoon Stories is mostly about some of the side romances afaik ... Naotsugu/Maryelle, etc. Nyanta's I have no idea, but assume it has to do with him being a Master Chef in the game and Serara having a crush on him and his food.

As for the light novels: There isn't an official translation available, but the ones up on Baka-Tsuki have the author's blessing afaik. Since Touno Mamare posts the story here for free http://ncode.syosetu.com/n8725k/ before compiling them into the published novels. (With some revisions) So I see no reason I can't provide a link:

I've bought the 1st volume of Nyanta's manga. it's about Log Horizon's daily life focusing on Nyanta (and Serara as the heroine).
I think the funniest part : Nyanta used many kinds of ingredients including the glorious sahuagin meat for his cooking. Tohya and Shiroe praised the taste but spitted their food when he told them

Read Honeymoon Logs?
If you're okay with a lighthearted and romance oriented story..
I'm still laughing every time I see Shiroe in Honeymoon Logs...

Nyanta's book is really good, too..

I'm waiting patiently for the Tabletop RPG books for Log Horizon to come out. They're listed tentatively for Feb 2014, so theoretically "soon". Of course, then I'm going to be compelled to help make a website for character creation and stat-tracking while playing etc...

Supposedly it's based on D&D 2.0 "Redbook" rules, and has an Aggro system loosely similar to what you would find in an MMO.

I did some catching up to Nyanta's web manga...
The continuation of Nyanta's cooking competition..
The winner can have Shiroe for 1 day. Not only Akatsuki and Henrietta, Even Krusty wants him!

Can't wait for the printed version

The volume 1 of Log Horizon manga was released in February 2013 , but it seems that the manga adaptation currently in hiatus.
Maybe the illustrator is busy with another project like the TRPG.

The side stories are going smoothly because they have different illustrator

Is it worth reading it or watching the anime? Some people say its good but then others say its just a rip off of Sword Art Online...

If you like a story with massive amount of world building and exploration of the game system, you'll like Log Horizon. Don't expect many action scenes, though. LH spends most of it's time in world building (political, social, and economic affairs) with some battles incorporated as needed. Game elements are very important and the creative ways to using them is a part of the story.
Compared to SAO, LH is much closer to Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (same author ) , and Spice and Wolf. Because the LH manga is in hiatus, I can only recommended the anime. It's a faithful adaptation sans some censoring (gore, adult materials).

The manga spin offs are great, too. You can see the Elder Tale world from the another guild's pov and their struggles to build their home in the new world while searching the way out
