I've been liking how much approval from Japanese publishers CrunchyManga has been getting so far, that it leaves me really optimistic in its future for its digital manga reading format and also excited in how much more it can expand and improve as time goes by. Do you think CR hosting digital light novels could be a good helping hand in making more LNs available to fans outside of Japan that want to support the authors and publishers?

I like the idea myself, but maybe it's a little too soon to go down that road now, and to me it seems CR is doing good with its current momentum. Though should it become reality, I would prefer we be able to legally download the volumes without needing internet access somehow if possible. Would be great if LNs get more popularity among digital manga reading because of it.

That is an interesting idea. I'd be willing to give it a shot. Are you thinking about LN in Japanese or translated or both?

Yeah, I was referring to Japanese LNs translated into English (other languages would be great too). Would be awesome if CR used an ebook reader similar to Kobo's as well.

Personally I would rather they not, if only because, especially for light novels, I prefer to have physical copies. It's one thing for fan translations, but official translations I much prefer to have in physical form. Besides Yen Press is doing an outstanding job with their titles so I want them to have as much chance to license other titles as possible.

I think they need more manga before adding light novels

Indeed, now that I think about it wasn't it announced that they'd plan to have about 50+ manga by summer? Maybe if turns out really successful they might give LNs a try.

Yeah I'd like it, they would probably raise the cost of the all-access membership though and I already feel like I pay enough for the content/service I get but I would not be willing to pay much more, even if LNs were added..

Light Novels on Crunchy Roll seems like a good idea to me.

This is an amazing idea. Getting professional translations for LN's would be really nice and it could really help expand the LN market in the US. I think this is a good idea because people don't have enough exposure to them.

Furthermore, this could be a good advertising point for LN's that are getting animes streamed on Crunchyroll or something like that.

I think we could pay per volume actually, but just not have to incur shipping costs. Usually LN's are only around $9 but the shipping costs make them cost much more. This makes it difficult to buy many from Japan at once. Being able to conveniently read them online for maybe half-price or some other worked out system would really brighten many people's days.

I would definitely be interested in this, perhaps even more so than manga (which I have not bought a membership for or even dipped into).
