I just finished Code Geass for the 5th time, and it's leaving me with some serious blues after I finish.
It's just such a masterpiece that I'm really sad to finish it every single time.

I can't find any other anime to match it

Too many to name them all. But, most recently, I would said Kuragehime. I love that anime and want more, but it will never come.

I'll contribute eight:

Ame and Yuki: Wolf Children.
Haibane Renmei.

Those two were just extraordinary and I never expect to ever see anything else quite like them.

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.
Neon Genesis Evangelion + The End of Evangelion.
Now and Then, Here and There.
Texhnolyze.

These were also exceptional, but very depressing as well.

Cowboy Bebop.

For it's incredible finish, the likes of which I've never seen replicated. And:

Serial Experiments Lain.

I wish I was a genius so I could understand this series better.

I don't watch depressing shows. I'll actually read up a summary of a series before investing time into it. Too many times in the past I've watched a show only to get thrown under a bus and run over by a steamroller with the ending.

Whenever I finish a really good anime. Because it's over.

The more amazing the ending, the more bummed I feel until I find something else. Just finished Gosick for example. Top notch ending, but that left my head feeling fuzzy and my heart heavy for a while.
Luckily, I had other stuff ready to be jumped into.

The metaphor that comes to mind is the end of a relationship. Just with all the emotions toned way down.

1. Fate/Zero Yes, I know they were shackled by the fact that it was a prequel. It still has earned my ire for having the most hopeless, depressing ending ever.

2. White Album 2 Everything goes to crap and it's really sad and painful to watch.

3. Guilty Crown All aboard the bandwagon! Inori dying was totally arbitrary & it was stupid.

There's no story that leaves me happy. Every time a story comes to an end, I always feel sad... it's like my best friend has died or something.

When I watch a story, I get involved in its world, and I connect to the characters, so I treat them like real people. It's always upsetting to me when a story finishes.

But if you want an anime that leaves me crying, I suppose that Rurounin Kenshin movie... it was really sad... the life of a Samurai

Instead of going into a specific anime I'll answer in more general terms.

Every single show I watch tends to leave some sort of impact on me, whether it's positive or negative. When it's negative I'm more like "I'm glad that's over". But when it's positive, even if it was a satisfying ending I get a strong feeling if the series is conclusively ended and there are unlikely to ever be any sequels or further material.

That feeling is one of "there isn't anymore, and there never will be". I've watched all that series has to offer, I've learned about the universe and the characters but there's nothing else new to do with that universe, that's all I'll ever see those people do. If I rewatch it it'll be exactly the same.

At least with an awesome video game I can still have a ton of fun with the gameplay which I've learned and become proficient at, I can fire up the game and smash some bad guys whenever I want to. With an anime or even movies, TV shows and books, that's all there is. The show's over, no more, move on. And that's all we can do is move on.

You're doing it wrong Iblessall.

Also, spoilers. If we care. I guess it has been out for a couple years now.
