The video randomly stops playing for some reason around every 3 - 5 mins sometimes longer sometimes shorter and in both shows that I watch currently naruto/hunter x hunter. I have a stable internet connection using firefox and stream HD videos with any issues whatsoever. Its a shame because I want to get the premium, but this makes it not worthwhile.

No offense, but you have to imagine that if this was a general problem with Crunchyroll, then they probably wouldn't have the many thousands of users using their services. So it's probably not them. Try a different browser, make sure you've stopped all other programs and that everything in your system is up to date.

Do you leave the video open for a while first prior to watching it? I find that leaving the video open for too long can cause this to happen. If I do so and press play it will eventually reach a point where it will stop playing any further.
If this happens simply refresh the page, more often than not the video will remember where you last watched up to and will continue playing from that point, or you could just remember how far in you are and go from there.

Exact same situation here, it tends to happen (when in PC) when I leave it alone for a while after starting to load the video or when I'm in other tabs checking something and I wait 10 minutes or so before returning. It seems that similar to other streams, CR stops at a certain point from where you're paused, and if left alone it'll simply stay there.

However in any other situation, say bad connection, it's the typical laggy pauses every 2 or 3 seconds.

I am having trouble with just one series on cr..all others play good. I don't know why just this one is having issues. Sometimes it pauses for a long time and I have to restart the episode,, sometimes it skips to next episode after the ad, sometimes it just won't load. Very mysterious since I have no problems with the other series I am watching.

actually it's a common problem for crunchyroll and it's been reported many times.

While I'm no expert, I do, however, see a lot of this in my actual job. A couple of things to look out for that will help determine the cause.

I apologize for the long post, however, I truly and deeply enjoy the Crunchyroll service and would like to help others as well; it is well worth the subscription.

First, I believe Crunchyroll uses a Progressive Download service rather than a Streaming service. For those that don't know the difference, Progressive Download is where you'll find more 'buffering' however, it can ultimately output higher quality videos (an example of a Progressive Download service is www.screencast.com). Streaming services, like YouTube, are designed for speed of playback, transcoding the original material and stripping the bitrate to achieve faster playback; rarely is there ever any sort of buffering (unless, of course, you're on a slow connection). Since the quality of videos on Crunchyroll are very high, I imagine that this is what they are doing; however, I do not know and this first paragraph is simply conjecture.

Okay, on to the possible cause.

Are there certain times when you see this worse than others? I know for a fact that between the hours of 8:00PM and 10:00PM EST I have the exact same issues (to the point that if I let it continue, I get just a black screen and nothing else), especially if it is Thrusday, Friday, or Satruday nights. This issue, while it exists on my PC and Linux boxes, it is far more noticeable on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Kindle Fire HD, and iPad devices that I own. The cause of this is due to the peak traffic times where a large number of viewers are accessing the CDN (Content Delivery Network) where the content is stored; unfortunately there is no fix for this, per se. Crunchyroll, in time, will continue to improve its load-balancing to improve the service all around. This is most often seen when new episodes are released on popular series (Arpeggio of Blue Steel suffered from this often enough, as it was quite popular, same with Shingeki no Kyoujin)

The most common issue for this buffering, though, is the connection itself; are you on a wireless or a wired connection? Do you, or roomates/family have downloads going at the same time? If you do a speed test at www.speedtest.net to a server that is, preferably, in a different state from you, what sort of results are you getting (Ping, Up and Down speeds)?

Another cause that I've seen recently is actually due to the browsers themselves; FireFox is generally pretty solid with media playback, however, it is a nasty RAM hog (though, not so bad as others *ahem...Chrome...ahem*) so I'd be curious, how ofter do you actually close the browser? Do you normally have multiple tabs going? If you do, are any of them loading animated gifs (those things chew up resources like it's nobody's business)? I'd also like to know if you experience the same behavior in Internet Explorer (yes ... I just asked that) or a far more fantastic browser like Opera?

Since you're using FireFox there is also the chance that you have numerous plugins / extensions running; would you happen to have any popup blockers / ad blockers running as well? They can severely degrade the performance of progressive download / streaming sites; as a test, if you do have them, if you disable them do you see the same issue?

Views don't equate to number of people, or indicate that those checking the thread are experiencing the problems.

I check that thread up to twice per day (if there are posts that often), and don't have problems.

It is perhaps more telling that the number of people sufficiently motivated by the problems they have experienced to post has resulted in 228 messages (at the moment). Given the normal reluctance or lack of motivation of people to complain, the would be only a small percentage of the number actually experiencing the problem, but still far short of 1.5 million.

Not everyone has to comment on a thread. They could easily look into it and see if anyone has a fix and if no one does, they move on. The 1.5 million viewers is saying a lot, so I think it's a little unfair of you to say the ones who are experiencing actual problems falls far short of that total number. I won't disagree w/ you about the fact that not every single viewer is having the problem. No, of course not. Though a thread that has gained this much notoriety in just a few months is saying something.

Howdy!

Apologies for taking a while to jump in here.

First off, I'm sorry that y'all are encountering issues with service. That said it is an area where engineering is focused right now. This includes working on a new Player as well as a new style of streaming for PC and some of our other supported devices.

Also, I do apologize if it has ever looked like we are blaming your computers. We aren't. I can't think of one instance in the templates that my team uses where we say 'Your computer is bonked!'. We have a flow that we go through and try several different things to see if we can bypass issues encountered. This is all in effort to produce a better streaming experience.

The improvements to the player are estimated to be in place by end of Q1 2014.

Regards,
-B

This hasn't been fixed yet? Glad I cancelled my subscription a month ago... It only started happening 2 months ago and was fine until, all of a sudden, it was just ****ed. Oddly enough everything worked great on the app. 1080 froze and paused, 720, 480 and even SD.

Crunchyroll really needs to fix this, I recommend cancelling your subscription and checking back here every couple of weeks until the problem is solved.

I even got refunded. Fair is fair and nobody should pay for a service that doesn't work as advertised.

This started happening a week ago for me, or so. It's different than general buffering. 1080p, 720p, 480p. They will all play for like 30 seconds than stop forever. When it buffers it stops, plays, stops, plays. It's not my internet connection.
