just needed better storylines, characters, animation and right pacing. i think thats all we need for ensure the future of anime. they kept it well so far with AoT and Space Dandy.

Also, We need more anime localized to the west.

I think we'll be seeing a lot of tragedies at some point in the future, if only to subvert the typical Anime cliches that quite a few people view as dominating Anime. I expect more deconstructions of a lot of genres, although it's been done before at various points (Neon Genesis Evangelion for Humongous Mecha, School Days for Harems, Revolutionary Girl Utena for Magical Girls and Fairy Tales...), I think it will see a rise in popularity. Expect a grim future for Anime (If you listen to me, that is.

I agree. Future will only lead to more T&A, and incest. But who knows maybe we'll find another Attack on Titan

In a few years I see many stories adapting the Fukushima/tsunami incident into manga/anime just like they did with almost every major earthquake in japan.

The genre that will be more popular will be tragedy and horror. With the success that Attack on Titan had there is no way the anime industry will pass this up( I already see them heading in this direction with "Akame Ga Kill" and "Tokyo ghoul." )

There will always be ecchie in this medium and as everyone else has said already sex sells

I really hope anime doesn't go the CGI route It can really kill the mood of an anime for me. Unless they improve it so much that it actually becomes enjoyable but until then please no!

I think the community will grow. With Space Dandy being aired before japan it will hopefully bring in more fans of anime.

And lastly 4 min episodes like pupa will probably die out unless they are cute or comedy sketches that can be done under 4 min.

Edit. I can also see sports making a comeback.

i don't think it'll change much... good triumphing evil is a common theme everywhere and something really liked, majority of people want the good guys to win, and want those doki doki good-feely feelings. anime is geared mostly toward the teenagers, so will also probably not stray far from teenager/high school route .

or who knows maybe we'll just get gore and horror with loli-based characters who play sports compiled in the future, never know with Japan

Answer and give your opinion on where you think anime is heading for us.

What kind of anime do you anticipate seeing in the near/far-off future?

What genres will become more common?
cant really say, but it seems that action, comedy, and slice of life is doing relatively well.
Will there be more fanservice and "PLOT" and less plot?
Possibly, but I ask a lot of people that watch anime and they said that unnecessary amount of plot is really getting annoying.
What will it look like animation wise?
The technology that goes into animating is getting better, so its probably going to be more fluid and cleaner looking, and there will probably be more detail in things that need details such as realism in vehicles, and weapons.
Will the community of people who enjoy anime grow or shrink?
Grow probably.
Will anime become more socially accepted?
It probably will be once the majority of anime that is released will reduce the amount of echii in it.
More males/females watching?
Males.
More popular and promoted?
I think it will probably be limited to facebook and twitter pages at this point.
The end of long running series?
If it keeps making money, why stop?
More shorts and less full anime? (Ex: Pupa)
Probably not.
Technology that will change the way we view anime?
So the anime viewing experience becomes essentially a virtually interactive visual novel? that would be awesome! hook me up!
Feel free to post an opinion of a change/question not mentioned above.

Edit: I forgot to mention any anime you think might come out xD

The future of anime is plot. Lots and lots of plot. Some will be interesting, some will be strange, some will make us want to cry, some will make us sad, some will make us feel bad, but there will be plot, like it or not.

One thing that I'd like to see is less of the typical protagonist. The "I don't know what's going on but I'm gonna do what's right" attitude has been heavily over used through the older generations, but they're still popping up too frequently.
