I thought about this today... What would be better for us and our consoles?

So then what would be the point of owning either console that is Microsoft or Sony? Will there just be one console for those games and will it be made by Nintendo?

It would be terrible if that happen. Competition makes better games.

well, considering my PC's graphic card is better than the PS4, yes i would love to have games for my PC.

however, back in the days, it was better/cheaper to have gaming consoles.

but right now, i wish they would release games for PC too because I hate having to buy a console just to play a final fantasy game or a non-pc RPG game.... i don't even play 80% of the titles they release on either consoles, cuz i'm not into action or FPS.

As awesome as it would be, it will only happen when one or the other goes bankrupt or moves to software like sega did.

More likely we'll get it where companies games will be available on other devices to consoles i.e. phones. Can see pokemon on a smart phone and using it's functions for the games i.e. texting in game/trading/battling etc.

We need the competition to drive the sales and to make better games, yet we now have companies who are high & mighty who will fall.
Sega did it with less awesome games with sonic being their only trump card at the end. Sony fell with the end of the ps2/start of ps3.
Nintendo hasn't advanced as much since the end of gamecube. Now Microsoft is falling with the end of 360/start of x1!

They all get complacent which leads to their fall and then hopefully, make them create better games and listen to fans. The alternative is the end of their rein.

True that would be nice, Sony has put games on PC and Microsoft released a game for the DS in the past, so it's not as far-fetched as you may think. But they have billion-dollar hardware programs to support so I wouldn't hold my breath for multiplat releases of Gran Turismo or Halo. But maybe 10 years down the road when it's not so competitive we can see some license sharing.

While I can see where one would see it as a good thing, the fact being that then people in general would be happier not having to have a console for a certain couple of games, I just couldn't see it happening just because its what gives a certain console an edge in the market, and since companies are about the cash it will remain that way for quite some time yet.

While thatd be cool in the short term in the long term it would be terrible. First of all the companies know great exclusives are the number 1 reason to buy any console which why they pour so much money into studios like Naughty Dog because they want them to be able to make their games as good as possible. In the long run AAA 1st and 2nd party studios would become more irrelevant, the console market would be severely crippled and since the majority of gamers are console gamers (PC fanboy I play on both but numbers dont lie) the industry as a whole would suffer that severe a shift in the current business model (which is an okay model) could cause a crash somewhere along the lines of the crash of 1983

There is nothing I really want that Xbox has exclusive, but even if they did It would be terrible for competition making games in the long run worse and consoles as well.

While it would be nice as a consumer to be able to play all games on one console, it would be terrible for innovation in the gaming industry. No matter which console is your favorite, the fact that all three major console manufactures went in different directions and support different types of games as exclusives is great, as it means games will keep getting more innovative to compete against what the other manufacturers has.

Competition is a good thing. If they ever did that then I'd expect it to be in a time where all consoles have the lockout for 1 disc per 1 console (where they all meet in closed doors and say, "yes it is a good idea!!"). Sure, the consumer outrage is a big thing to prevent my worse case scenario for no competition situations, but what is suggested in the original post is just a slippery slope towards uniformity.

In Sony's case they would lose the driving force behind the great success of their PlayStation, since when you look at PlayStation then you see their massive and also amazing quality games exclusive library in witch you can't see anywhere on the xbox side of things since Microsoft doesn't take any big risks when it comes to their game library.

However in Microsoft's case I believe it would be a great thing for them since their exclusives are (let's be honest... ) they're rather shitty compared to what both Sony and Nintendo have... However many people see MS controller as being much better then Sony's DS line on controllers meaning that Sony would most likely drive people on to xbox over their own system.

No. I couldn't see Gears of War, Titanfall or Halo on a PS3/PS4 and what ever exclusives they have on the Xbox. It just feels weird. Plus I don't look at the specs or features of a console (True gamer right here) I look at the games. If the consoles got all games it'd be pointless to compete and Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony might as well become one. The industry needs competion, not just for consoles, but for games.

Also why does everyone think PS3 and PS4 have better exclusives? I'm not trying to be a fanboy or anything just curious, Xbox has always been amazing with Halo and Gears and E3 blew me away with Project Spark, Titanfall, and all the other games they are getting. Sure Last of Us is good and whatever else they have (Uncharted and inFamous right?) but Xbox still has amazing games that can compete with PS4.
