Ok maybe I'm not the best choice to start this one but I can't help it, I'm a fan of the Magical Girl genre.

New Year brings us a New Pretty Cure and this year's entry gives us Happiness Charge Pretty Cure. As well as the 10th year anniversary of the franchise

Start feels a little rushed, we pretty much hit the ground running Bad guys make their intro and then right to Cure Princess getting kicked around by our new breed of Mob in Kamina Shades.

Some interesting differences in this season. Pretty Cure is already public knowledge to the towns folk and from the looks of things they have not had a 100% success rate so far. Bad Guy wins spread some kind of Mold across town and it seems like there have been some permanent impact on the town so far.

In fact Cure Princess has apparently never won a single fight. The other, Cure Fortune seems to be the competent one and frankly Hates her. Possibly for good reason

First impressions

I'm getting a Heartcatch feel from this one. Particularly with the design of the Fairies and the Wild Takes

Hime is clearly trying but she seems like someone who gives up too quickly. She shy, yet egotistical, she tends to let her fears get in her way a little to much. She does get really outgoing and friendly though once you swing the conversation into her zone. In a lot of ways she seems like a mix between Cure Marine and Cure Blossom

She also doesn't seem to really think things through as seen by her method of recruiting a friend

She does however seem to have good luck as the person she clunked in the head happens to be Aino Megumi.

soon to become Cure Lovely

Aino is the big ball of friendly energy following the tradition of many Pink Cures before her and presumably just what Hime needs in a partner.

as a final note

Nice intro post! I've not watched any part of the Pretty Cure series, and this makes me want to give it a try...someday (once I get through a bit more of what's in my non-simulcast queue).

I am going to be perfectly honest and say I've only gotten 30 episodes into the original Pretty Cure. I will probably complete the show after Fist of the North Star.

Cure Black and Cure White...those outfits... oh perfection I say! Ain't another Cure comes close. They just opened up with the best color combination possible, and damn did it pay off. Now they're stuck naming them Cure Lovely and Cure Princess...must be tough.

And here are the two S.H. Figuarts Figures of them. How can you NOT want that? They even come with a pair of holding hands... for the Marble Screw of course.

Heartcatch was my first run in with the Franchise so that's going to hold a lot to me, Moonlight vs. Dark and the Blossom+Marine relationship was a lot of fun.

but the original series really dose remain the heart of it all. and yeah Those outfits are still the best in the series (although Cure Moonlight looks awesome)
Black introed the first of the new episodes for the 10th anniversary which was cool, from what I heard a different Cure will be introing each one for the rest of the season.

My all time favorite stuff though are the All Star films. For some reason I just Love seeing an army of Magical Girls kicking the butt of some giant Godzilla sized Beasty

I am going to assume this picture here is of Cure Moonlight

And I want you to know that I have a weakness for the word Moonlight. You can blame From Software.

yeah that's her.

Probably the oldest Pretty Cure in the Franchise with the exception of Cure Flower, (who only got a 1 episode guest appearance). I just love her look and style compared to the others. The Design team did a fantastic job with the idea of an older Magical Girl.

Cure Flower wasn't bad either though, for an old lady

I have a question...can I watch this show without any prior knowledge of the franchise?

Most seasons are pretty much stand alone. It's kind of like how they do Power Rangers, New heroes, new villains and new theme. The only exceptions are the originals and the Pretty Cure 5 team both of whom got 2 seasons

The only time the different groups connect is the All Star films.

yeah, the All Star Movies are pretty much a "Passing the Torch" sort of thing. They typically come out within the first few months of the new series starting and while all the past teams do appear they tend to focus on the last season character s and the new ones.

The All Stars DX movies are my favorites because they tend to give face time to everyone. There is just something awesome about seeing all the different teams together against a single foe. They are like a savage pack of wolves, attacking from every side one after another.

Just awesome to watch

Same series director
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsuya_Nagamine

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same character designer, but I can't find any proper references.
As I'd rather PPV it, I'm going to wait until all the episodes are out.

The PreCure are MANY...
There's at least..
umm..
2+1+2+5+4+4+4+5+5+4?
so.. 36+ Pretty Cure and a multitude of fairies.

I found the names odd since there's already a character named Love and there was already a Cure Empress..

I think the most unfortunately named cures were from Yes! Pretty Cure 5.
Dream, Lemonade, Rouge, Aqua, Mint.. There isn't much cohesion to their names.

Smile PreCure at least made their incoherant names fun.
Happy, Sunny, Peace, March, Beauty ♪

The "Bad End" Pretty Cure in Smile are by far my favorite villains from any of the series. They were just.. perfect

More perfect than Dune with his Earth Punching.

EDIT: Spelled "Peace" incorrectly the first time a wrote this

They are defiantly taking a few different ideas with this new one.

Hime is an interesting one. Aino pointed it out fairly well. She keeps trying despite being afraid and despite failing time and again. Her main problem is that she gives up way to quickly, she needs someone else there to give her that extra push.

Surprise though that Hime is the one doing the Purification. That is usually Pink's job but Aino is clearly running the Moral support role for this season. Be interesting if Hime stays in the center role for this.

Episode 3 is out

well.... that's a bit different

Cure Lovely is apparently a Fire Type and a AOE Minion Sweeper. As an added bonus our collection item this season appears to be combat useful leading to mass death by Flamenco Dancer
