I don't know if we are on the same page. I said America is the "greatest melting pot of all the nations in the world", but I wasn't saying it is the best nation, the greatest nation, etc. I just meant that America is the ultimate melting pot. Not only does it have what may be the greatest diversity of cultures and ethnic groups, it also is the largest (population-wise) nation to have such diversity, so many people add to the diversity of the nation. Millions upon millions of people.

But I wasn't saying "Oh yeah, America is the best nation in the world". It probably isn't. It has some very good things about it, but also plenty of bad things and things it could improve on.

Does that clarify things? Or did I misunderstand you when I read that paragraph I quoted?

Um yes and No. See...

I understood what you were saying and I get that point. However, I believe that very point is open to debate. No country has a monopoly on diversity or freedom. Or any of the other abstract ideals that most liberal democracies aspire to.

Further it makes you sound like arrogant Americans who thing the commonwealth is still ruled by monarchy and nobility, Germans are still Nazis and everyone else is a third world shithole gassing on about how they are most free (because of their guns) and because they filter all their government subsidies through corporations to remove the taint of Liberalism=socialism=communism. This thread is evidence that America the free and the brave still hates and constrains a lot of what is unfamiliar to it.

So perhaps I overreacted to it. Many of us Canadians (note I didn't say all) get exposed to a lot of Narcissistic American trumpeting at the same time as we wonder if our "closest friend, and biggest trading partner" knows that we even exist.

I don't think any country can prove that it is constantly and consistently the best at abstract concepts.

Except Hockey.

Hockey is OUR game.

(shhh.. don't tell the Russians or the Finns or The 1980 olympic gold medal winners and the 1996 World cup of hockey winners. (cough USA cough)

I thought it was very interesting to having some parts sung in different languages.

The outspoken minority is being heard here as with most other "controversies." Scream loud enough and people will hear. While everyone else is sitting happily not giving two shits. Not even a nano-shit could be given by most.

i didn't watch the superbowl (didn't even know it was happening until yesterday morning), but every year there's an uproar about something. you just can't have millions of people watch the same game and not get upset over something or another

So, these people are ok with the physical damage that Coca Cola does to their bodies in the form of diabetes and tooth decay, but a commercial is enough to drive them away?

Absolutely brilliant.

I didn't watch the super bowl ad nor the game, but that song was fine with me because I lived in a diverse city. I don't really care because its just a commercial. I assume that most people are just ignorant fools. Oh well.

Loved the commercial. It was very well done and I am glad that they made it. I am not surprised by people having a negative reaction about it though. I didn't know about the Miss America thing or the US soldier and his Muslim wife ad but I instantly thought about the uproar that the Cheerios commercial with the interracial couple caused. It's sad and it is going to happen but I am grateful to the companies that do things like this. They might be doing it just for their product but people need to get used to reality.

As usual, SuperBowl or Football is just boring in general.

The Half time show and the Ads what make me watch it.

Jaguar Ad was pretty awesome,

Doritos was arryt

Rest were okay.

btw the Halftime show was waaaay better than last year or whatever year Madonna preformed.

I skipped the Super Bowl and I haven't bothered looking at the ads this year. The past few years haven't impressed me with the ads.

Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad: Can you believe this reaction?

Coca-Cola's Super Bowl ad has sparked both outrage and kudos on Twitter and Facebook.

The ad, entitled "It's Beautiful," features the patriotic song "America the Beautiful" sung in eight languages. The ad shows people of different ethnicities.USA Today

I honestly thought the commercial was pretty cool. I took as a representation of how diverse and multicultural America was and how we all come together as proud Americans. Of course, there were also 'ole uncle Billys screaming on their porch with their shotguns " 'Merica!!!!" who probably didn't like the ad lol.

I can't wait to watch a segment of this on The Daily Show. The U.S. is hilarious.
