I kinda took this pic from another thread lol
Anyway, Kara no Kyoukai isn't really about the action, but all the action scenes are pretty badass thanks to Shiki right here.
Not sure if she can take on Goku tho.

she can see the lines of mortality and sever them... I'm sure she could kill goku several times over. she's almost as hax as that light bastard and his notebook of doom.

Better question would be "Which characters could stand a chance against the overpowered Goku?"

Best doesn't necessarily mean strongest.

And because the ladies are probably going to be shorted, I'll plug Maka, Hime and Shana.

Maka

Hime

Shana

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann vs Goku would be interesting...

The final transformation in the final battle would crush Goku XD
Because that's more overpowered than what Goku is haha.

TTGL, great anime :D

Agreed, the definition of overpowered and over the top is as follows:

TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN

Ha. Ha. HA. Funny about Goku being the best. As far as I know Goku couldn't beat a God.

Depends on if he takes her by surprise ;)
She can't do anything if she's dead.
As far as I've understood, she's only a "God" while she's alive.
And a bitch god aswell

But even if she has no knowledge of being God don't you think even if she is "dead" it wont effect her? Like she can just create everything again. Also she could just create Goku into being Usopp from One Piece to troll all the Goku fans

I'd make a Lain comment, but that'd take us even farther away from action characters.

In terms of archetype, I'd say Batou from Ghost in the Shell is one of the best action heroes in anime:

▼ "There's loyalty that protects secrets and loyalty that projects the truth.
You cannot serve both masters, so which loyalty is yours?
"

Guy, this was not a topic that said "who is the strongest hero" this is a topic of who is "the best hero." For all intents and purposes, Goku is a pretty shitty character after Dragon Ball. Strong as hell, but he is NOT the best hero. Heck, I can argue that Gohan is a better hero in DBZ than Goku is. :/ When it comes right down to something like this, it all goes into the character itself. What they fight for, how they fight, their goals, ambitions, their morals, their sense of being, etc. Goku lacks most of these things. Goku fights because he likes to fight and cares about his friends (some times), and it kinda just stops there. He is probably one of the dumber characters in that regard, too. Who the hell gives their enemy that wants to kill you and all your friends a Senzu Bean just so "it is a better fight" like he did with Cell? That isn't being a hero, that is being a moron that almost got him and everyone else killed.

To me, the best hero characters are ones that don't really like to fight, but have to in order to protect what they care about, even if it hurts them in the long run. So, here are my Top 3 for Greatest Anime Heroes.

1. Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)

To me, Kenshin is every single thing an anime hero SHOULD be. He hates killing, he hates that he has to fight, but he fights to protect not only his loved ones, but he fights to protect everyone that can't protect themselves as a whole. He gets no joy out of this, and it is all for penance for what he did during the Bakumatsu. He holds and cherishes an ideal that should be protected.

2. Madoka Kaname (Madoka Magica)

Self-sacrifice to the freaking extreme. Just in case for the few people that have not seen this series, I won't spoil anything, but... she is truly one of the least selfish characters I have ever seen in anime, and what she does makes her one of the best heroes of all time in anime.

3. Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: brotherhood)

Trying to right his own wrong, and goes about it without compromising his own ideals along the way. To me, Ed was the most compelling character in the whole series, and it does make you want to route for him all the way through. He cares more about how others feel over his own life, and despite some anger issues, is a very compassionate character.

Other great hero characters: Vash the Stampede (Trigun), Simon (Gurren Lagann), Utena Tenjou (Revolutionary Girl Utena), Setsuna F. Seiei (Gundam 00), Maka Albarn (Soul Eater), Saber (Fate Series), and Kotetsu T. Kaburagi (Tiger and Bunny)
