I got hollered at today by a stranger because she couldn't see my eyes.. I'm used to it from my family and the church ladies but come on they don't mind it long in the back but why do old people get *really* pissed because they can't see my eyes?

There *has* to be some dormant evolutionary/practical reason that hasn't applied since technology was invented but I can't figure it out.

Eye contact is important to most people when communicating. It's suppose to show that you're paying attention or it has to do with respect. There are a lot of things that people communicate through their eyes that they might not say directly also, like other forms of body language.

Eye contact really is important. I'm not old at all, and I'd feel weird talking to someone who had hair covering their eyes. It's tough to explain, but it just doesn't quite feel right.

Where are both of your eyes? Can't see it, and it's making me sad. :<

As the above people have already said, Some people just can not stand it when they cant make eye contact with you. I assume this would apply to old people a little more than others since they grew up back in the day when most people actually had face to face conversations.

I wouldn't let it bother you though, old people are crazy.

"Old people hate long hair?"

Nice blanket statement.

It's hardly restricted to older people. Orimos and PatrickAupperleU are on the money. I used to have my bangs covering my eyes when I was younger, yet even I found myself uncomfortable with not seeing the eyes of another person. That's part of the reason why I stopped, because I recognized the hypocrisy of my actions.

It's probably me but I get uncomfortable staring people in their eyes while having a conversation. Eye contact is important yet its so weird to do that.

They are jealous of your hair. Hell I even envy long haired people since I'll probably go somewhat bald eventually. That is definitely it.

Pretty much this. But to get flak from a random person, that's just stupid.
