I'm not old but I dislike when dudes wear their hair long. It looks way to feminine. If "Dude (looks like a lady)" by Aerosmith pops into my head within the first few seconds of meeting someone or I can't tell your gender from looking at you. I mentally cringe and pass judgement. Similarly if I can't tell if a woman is a man or not.

Let me expand upon my previous statement, "I'm old and I don't dislike long hair."

I'd rather deal with a sexually ambiguous looking guy who happens to be a nice fella than a judgmental, short-haired asshole.

I've got long hair right now and people do say things about it :l
I just sweep it to the side, but even then it's worse when someone says it's "Like a Bieber cut" or some BS like it

I don't think it's appropriate to say old people hate long hair.

But, I find making eye contact with people uncomfortable. It gives me this strange feeling I don't like, somewhere deep within what I like to call, my "soul".

Maybe it was the way I was raised, but I can't stand guys with girl hair, aka hair covers the eyes and such. I'm OK but not fully I guess... about guys having long hair in the back, but if they have long hair in front I want to take my knife to their hair honestly, not that I would, just want to.

I got hollered at today by a stranger because she couldn't see my eyes.. I'm used to it from my family and the church ladies but come on they don't mind it long in the back but why do old people get *really* pissed because they can't see my eyes?

There *has* to be some dormant evolutionary/practical reason that hasn't applied since technology was invented but I can't figure it out.

I.. have no idea why I like long hair anymore, but somehow would feel wrong if it's cut short.
I don't see anything wrong with wearing hair any which way a person wants as long as it works for them.. safely..

Eye contact would be nice to have to read your expression, there might be a thought that you are rolling your eyes at whatever they might be saying.

There are those males with long hair, but they usually show facial hair too, what about males with long hair and a clean shaved face?

I don't blame you for having long hair.
Older parents want you to look decent enough for the real world ahead, at least that's my many parents in life.
Most importantly, it may have been more of an eye contact issue as everyone here is saying or their annoyance for your long bangs in front.
I did have bangs before near teenage years before working.

On not being able to see your eyes - yeah, it's kind of hard to connect with someone when you can't see their eyes. The eyes are the windows to the soul, after all - you can read a lot of emotion out of just the eyes. Having zero emotional context is like talking to a blank slate, a nothing - wouldn't it feel weird to you?

As for why people don't like men with long hair in general, well... long hair was (and still is, to a degree) considered a feminine trait, and then there were the hippies. People not a part of the 60s/70s counterculture don't like them.

As for myself... I keep my hair short for threefold reasons:

1. It gets curly when it gets long, and that's just a big mess I don't want to deal with.
2. My father calls me a hippie if it gets too long, and I get enough grief from him as is.
3. Apparently I'm going bald (or at least have a widow's peak, which is not a good prognosis for my hairline) so it doesn't matter much anyway.

Do these old people REALLY hate your long hair? Couldn't be anything else? Like your bubbly personality and lovely eyelashes? Ooh, baby, do you have a map? Cause I'm lost in your eyes.

I kind of lost my point, but I'm okay with that.

The only acceptable long hair on males is the mullet. Business in the front, party in the back. The reason people dislike it is because it is still sorta tabooish to have long hair as a male. Men are supposed to have the traditional clean cut. But why do you care what others think if you like your hair long grow it out. It's only hair man be happy you still have it once you're 30 and balding GG.
