I myself don't dislike her, but we don't know that much about her besides ninja life and sasuke, to like her that much, but I agree she is a huge part of the show.

If you watch the movies, you do however learn some about her more XD, mostly referring to road of ninja, which btw LOVE that movie XD

Spoiler for if haven't seen road to ninja:

I don't hate her.
She's not worthless.
She's not useless.
She actually do stuff. Helps her allies with her medic skills. Crush enemies with her insane strenght.
All in Shippuden :P

I don't like Sakura from Naruto original(or whatever I should call it) though.

To be honest Sakura is one of the key reasons I stopped caring about Naruto a long time ago. Her stupidity moves the plot forward, but it goes to places I don't particularly enjoy. All the Sasuke/Naruto/Sakura drama is just stuff I could care less about, but it's basically the driving force for everything that they do.

There's a difference between not fighting because you aren't on-screen (like Neji) and not fighting because you are on-screen but sitting on the sidelines because Kishimoto does not know how to girls . The fight with Sasori existed solely to convince us - trick us, I should say - that Sakura has a purpose.

I took an extended break with Naruto after Danzo's defeat, so I don't know what happens after, but that span of time represents more than a decade of content. A decade with a meaningless character.

This is the main problem with the series as a whole, and Sakura is not the only character to suffer this horrid writing failure, either. Kishimoto is just AWFUL at writing characters. ESPECIALLY female characters. It is also obvious from his writing style the last six+ years that he heavily favors the Uchiha over pretty much anything else he created, Naruto included. It got so bad for a while that it was hard to even recognize the series, and the title should have been changed to Sasuke, or Uchiha, or Sharingan Shenanigans.

Personally, I think Sakura is better without the Sasuke obsession. Her true, more fun personality comes out. So does her drive and her own conviction. Every time Sasuke is on screen with her, her character suffers so much (actually, every time ANY character is on screen with Sasuke their character tends to suffer almost irreversible harm.) This was exceedingly bad during the Pre-Skip. Him leaving was the best thing that could have happened to her character, personally (and in turn the worst thing that could happen to Naruto's character...) She became one of my favorite characters, despite how badly Kishimoto handled her character. I see the dropped potential. I see what she does and I understand her convictions. There is nothing bad there. Kishimoto tried to go back on her character development so harshly that it gives me whiplash. However, her character was not damaged enough for me to dislike her. Maybe it is me being difficult on that field, or maybe it is because I have been defending Sakura's character for so long that it just became second nature at this point, but I will never not like her. If only because everyone else has suffered just as much shitty writing as she has. I still think Kishimoto may have just taken ALL the cocaine in Japan (and I mean ALL of it...) some time after the Pain Arc and said "fuck it!" and just stopped giving a damn. :/

I think Kishi admitted to being awful at writing female characters, and Sakrua just has it the worst because she gets the most screentime.

Another problem is that Sakura (and Tsunade) rely primarily on taijutsu, when the series' fights seem to be more based around what awesome ninjutsu everyone has. There are comparatively few taijutsu and genjutsu specialists; only Guy, Lee, Tsunade and Sakura rely primarily on taijutsu (and even then, a lot of Guy's higher-tier techniques are not too dissimilar from ninjutsu), and only Itachi and Kurenai rely primarily on genjutsu (even if the latter doesn't get to show it much). Even with superhuman strength, it's hard to stay relevant when people are pulling all kinds of new magic powers out.

Totally agree with the Uchiha obsession though. Out of all of the countless denizens and clans in the Naruto universe, why are the Uchiha so important and powerful? Did nobody but the Uchiha and Senju do anything before the creation of the village system? Why does the Sharingan get so many game-breaking powers (5!)? It's as if everyone in the Leaf knows the Uchiha have game-breaking powers and went to great lengths to suppress them (2nd Hokage) or exploit them (Danzo) - they're the most important people in the setting, despite what the title would have you believe.

I commend you for standing your ground on Sakura, though. She gets far more hate than she deserves, again, because of shippers (mostly).

He indeed did say that... However, I don't even know if that is true at this point. I will explain why. Spoilers ahoy for through all of Naruto, just in case, but most of this is ooooolllllldddddl, so I will not Spoiler Tag it... XD

Temari Pre-Skip was a character. She had some of the best moments in the first part of the series in general. She was both physically capable and powerful, but also mentally strong since she had to deal with a very loose cannon Gaara. She had a sharp wit, and despite all the crap she went through, was able to still care about her brother who wanted to outright murder her at points. Her fight against Shikamaru, her trying to protect Gaara during the invasion, her fight against Tayuya, and her whipping Shikamaru into shape after the botched plan to bring Sasuke back all show how great a character she was.

Then there was Tsunade, who had a whole arc dedicated to her. This showed some great character growth from her as well, and got her out of her dreadful funk that she was in after Dan died. She also showed how incredibly strong she was for the fact that she pinned Manda down with Gamabunta's freaking sword, and smacked Orochimaru so hard he flew hundreds of meters. But, the character growth was a bigger reason for this.

Then we come to the time-skip, and we see Sakura grow as her own person, and teamed up with ANOTHER strong female character in Chiyo. The fight against Sasori is still one of the most epic showdowns in the series as a whole. Heck, it might be the best fight in the whole series one could argue; it is most certainly Top 5 EASY. Both Sakura and Chiyo are driven to succeed for different reasons, and they both have so much character depth and growth that it was amazing to see. Sakura really shined bright here in a very good way. Personally, after this arc, I thought we would get more things like this, and it did indeed look that way when Shikamaru had a whole arc pretty much to himself... But then everything went wrong after Hidan and Kakuzu... It because The Uchiha Show, and nothing no longer mattered but Uchiha being better than everyone else.

So, is he really bad at writing female characters? Or is he just a bad writer in general that fails to plan out ANYTHING and who has fangasms when dealing with Uchiha? Personally, I think it is the latter. It is a shame, too, because the series up to even the Pain Arc was mostly damn good (even if Sasuke was and still is an awful character.) Actually, it seemed like it started to get more and more like a really bad fanfiction the longer the series has went on... :/

Yup. I don't understand it either, man. It just happened. Probably has to do with Kishimoto loving Sasuke the most, though. I know he has pretty much said that Sasuke is his favorite, and the writing sure as hell shows that since the whole universe revolves around him and the Uchiha in general. God, I wish Haku just murdered his ass way back when...

Thanks. Six years of hard work for that. XD

Aside from her Shippuden stats, I find her to be easily overshadowed by many characters. Other than her being introduced as an irritating b*tch, that is. Even so, despite her supposedly being a main character, I find that she's treated awfully similar to what one would expect from a side character who's occasionally upgraded into an important secondary character; however, Kishimoto insists that she's a main character. Consequently, Sakura as a character makes me uncomfortable, due to what I feel is a mischaracterization. With her being "miscast," I'm left with the sort of aggravation that results from witnessing anise being referred to as "cinnamon," despite not even being treated as the latter. With Sakura being "anise," it's understandable to find her lacking as "cinnamon." Sakura is good "anise" (secondary/side character), but naturally falls short at being "cinnamon" (main character).

Actually, I have come to terms with this. There are only two main characters in this series (and only about five characters that matter at all). Sasuke being the most important, and then Naruto. Everyone else is just there because of the other two characters in some fashion, even the main villains. Actually, the rest of the cast is so neutered now, that it comes down to how bad the writing has fallen since the Hidan and Kakuzu Arc has ended. It is almost as bad as Bleach is in terms of how the characters are used... <.<

Kishimoto hasn;t had Sakura as a prominent character in a long time now. YEARS. That doesn't make her a main character. it just means Kishimoto is... well... Kishimoto.

I think I just really don't care for the main 3 in general...I watched the show for everyone else. For me Sasuke can go (cause he's a fcking asshat) and the Uchiha should be in the background. Naruto should be in like 90% of the show right? It's pretty much the Uchiha show now..As for Sakura I think she just tries too hard and that's why I don't care for her. Besides like 2 fights, even with her insane strength she doesn't look too proficient with it especially in the Naruto movies. That and a few of the things that come out of her mouth really comes off as spoiled and unnerving. And then that one moment where she tried to kill Sasuke but failed miserably...that was painful to watch. I wish she can have some more conviction and stop relying on Naruto and everyone else.
