What do you think of Valentines day?

Ideally, Valentines' Day is a day for couples to show affection for one another. Romantic gestures like the chocolate and flowers, and a nice fancy dinner.

Realistically? It's been corrupted into just another commercial opportunity by companies to high hell and back. Instead of dual gestures of affection, men are expected to do all the romantic things for women, commercials for jewelry and such air for weeks before, and Valentines' products are put out two days after Christmas. I work in a grocery, so they have commercials and such that play over the PA. The female announcer practically threatens you not to forget it. I mean, why is it such a big deal if a man forgets Valentines', but not a woman? Double standard much, Western culture?

As for myself, it means nothing. I've never been in a relationship and I'm far too shy and introverted to ask anyone out. Plus nobody would want to go out with a 24-year old man who lives with his parents and has no car.

... I'm gonna go slave over Pokémon Gameshark codes to ignore the pain now.

I don't mind it as a holiday particularly, but I hate the commercialization.
That gets applied to literally every holiday though, so really nothing can be done about it as long as people keep buying into it. If its commercialization, I hate Black Friday more. D:

It's a cute holiday for couples to plan a date around. If I had a partner, I'd totally use the holiday as an excuse to bake cute heart shaped pastries and dress up more than I would usually. I actually prefer what we have now, with it being a day for couples to be extra romantic, than the japanese version. Sure, it sounds cute and all, but I think it's kind of a more tragic holiday there. It can be a day to start your romance, but I think more often than not, it's heartbreak for both sides, and the commercialization is still there. Stores encourage girls to buy chocolates, even if it's only for male friends/relatives. Yes, it's a good way to show appreciation for someone's company, even if you don't love them that way, but it sure does sell a lot of chocolate.

Valentines day is my parent's anniversary so it's always been more about that than my love life. Coincidentally since my Dad is going to be working that day I am taking my Mom out to lunch for Valentines day. Not sure if that will work in my favor or not for finding a date to go out with later.

I'm pretty indifferent to Valentine's Day

I don't see what the monetary issue is. If a person is lucky enough to have someone special in their life, then why care about splurging on them for Valentines Day? Those types of people anger me the most. Be grateful -_-

But for me, Valentine's Day has always been a regular, ordinary day. It only annoyed me in high school, but now I just don't really care

"I ain't even mad' as they say these days. Do people still say that? lol

I see it as one or two things. another day that is taken advantage of by companies to advertise the need to buy the person you care about something that they will eventually give up one day (before the end of the year). Another reason is that its a day that has too much influence on the affection you have for someone even if the day didn't exist in the first place. There is truly nothing wrong with having a day to mark care and love to all but to narrow it down to one specific thing is beyond tolerable.

But What do i know? St Valentine's Day™ is just that a trade mark now a days.

took me four hours to make four cards and still have 8 more to go, Valentine's Day is rough! really though, it's my second favorite holiday after Easter, I love this time of year; I always dress to the nines and give stuff to my friends. PLUS CHOCOLATE CANDY FOOD SWEETS

This year I even wrote a (lame) poem for my friends.
