It gives you a socially acceptable way of giving candy to a diabetic.

Valentine's is the same to me as any other holiday...an excuse to bake yummy snacks :P
You really just have to make it fun for yourself no matter what your circumstance, obviously couples know what to do with it, and if you're single it's a good excuse to make a move on your crush.
And half price candy the day after.

I guess there may be some couples out their who think it is nice to have a day for lovers to celebrate their relationship, but I have to ask isn't that what your anniversary is for? I have always thought it was just some stupid holiday that advertisers came up with to make more money (if the American market was smart they would adapt the Japanese way and make even more money).

I have never really understood why women make such a big deal about the holiday. But I think the main reason is the same as why women wear make up it's because they want to show off to other females and make themselves feel superior. Not all women are like this but the ones that are, are annoying! Their whole self confidence and self worth depends on being better then other women by having a better boyfriend and/or relationship than other women.

But whatever I guess as long as I get free chocolates I don't really care that much.

..cliche day..

This pretty much.

Why use valentine's day as an excuse to man the shit up and confess ( for either gender ) either give an incentive for people to be '' romantic '' if you can do it any other day of the year?

It's probably attributed to the fact that we were all nomadic children, but my friends and I have done it the Japanese way for years. And White Day isn't all it's cracked up to be... You know how hard it is to one-up your girl friends? I can make anything but chocolate lol.

I think Valentine's Day is just a waste of time and money. However, that's probably because I can't seem to find someone to be with. I had a girlfriend once. That's about it.

Take in mind that the only valentines day I spent with a girl I found out 3 months later that she had been cheating on me.

That being said, I don't like gift giving holidays in general. When you make gift giving an obligation, it takes away so much meaning behind the act of giving somebody something.

I give my friends and family stuff here and there because I find something that they would like, or I make something for them. Not because it's the 25th of December or something.
