I love Crunchyroll. However, lately watching on the web site (my main means of watching shows on CR) has approached unusability for most of the time. The site is slow to load (if it loads at all). I have tried 3 different browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome), on 2 different machines (running windows 7 and 8). I have tried different ISPs (work and home). I have even turned off everything except for Flash and Java. There are times where I can't even log in.
I am able to watch streaming video on Funimation, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.
After going through all of this, I am very certain this is on CR's end. I prefer watching and paying a legal site. But, if this crap keeps up, I'm going to cancel my subscription and start going through less than legal web sites for the shows CR carries.

I hear ya on that, it's frustrating that I can get higher resolution and load times on my iPhone CR app than on my macbook pro!

You're not the only one. I've been having weeks of trouble with it now. I understand a couple of days but this is going on for awhile. It took me 15 minutes of refreshing and waiting on loading to access an episode right now.

Have they released any answers for why this is?

Yeah, same here. After a year and a half of pretty much working beautifully, It's turned to junk. Started around time manga was added. Resolution switches back and forth, stalls, videos won't load. Even the website slowed way down or won't open.
I alerted service and they acted like it on my end and connection. They asked for my connection info, I sent them a screenshot of the test showing the same broadband speed I've always had and then......nothing. No return email, nothing. Customer service has gotten as poor as their video service. I wonder if their change of ownership has resulted in this new lack of product quality and service.

A couple more months like this and they will get my money no longer!

I've been having problems like this as well. I get brief moments of normal speed, but for the past several weeks this site, and this site alone, has been slow, overall. Front page barely loading, forums barely loading, and so forth.

DDOS... bah its called expandability and CR has not in a while I think. Problem is servers and location. Not sure where they keep there servers but its like everyone is running off the same ones and getting rerouted poorly.

When I use CR i feel like im loading videos from California or directly from Japan. I started my CR subscription so I wouldnt have to deal with using non legal streaming sites and shuffling through bad links. But I find some do it better than CR. The only reason I keep it is to scream from my appleTV and Roku. Otherwise there really is no point in paying for slow service. I can only stream the 480p smoothly sometimes but if I do that I would rather just go to the FREE sites.

I have done the suggested fixes from support. They just blame it on my 100+ computers ive tested it from or the 40+ customer accounts ive tested it from. All having internet speeds of 150+ download speeds and 150+ upload speeds. Using i7 4770k with 32GB of ram and nvidia 780 video cards to Intel i3 with onboard 4000 HD compatible video.

UPGRADE YOUR SERVERS AND LOCATIONS CR! I would like to watch without waiting to log in or load a video. I pay for the service. If im not paying enough to do that then let me know how much more I have to pay to get it. I wouldnt mind paying an extra $3-5 to get prioritized service. I don't want to rip off the awesome animators that im helping to support.

CR's servers are in Wichita, Kansas.

Just spent 5 minutes trying to get the videos to show up after opening the show on the iOS app.
Never loaded. Broadband here is stable. Checked that first. Website is terribly slow also.
CR needs to spend some money and regain capacity!

I can't really blame net neutrality for this. As others have said, it appears to be a server load issue. In the mornings, I experience these problems a lot less. And, if it was a net neutrality issue, I would have these problems with at least some other streaming services (I use a lot of them).

Agreed, its become extremely bad. I can't even go a few seconds without videos freezing. It's been like this for weeks, very frustrating.

Some thread around here I said I was going to finish out my anime queue and then cancel my membership. However, over the past week I have been unable to even watch videos in standard definition. So I finally pulled the trigger and canceled my membership.

If I were asked if I could recommend crunchyroll for anime, I'd have to say no. Not only did they spam the shit out of my inbox their streaming service does not deliver. I'd easily pay 3 times what I did for for my premium membership for stable, high definition, anime streams.

Edit:

As an aside, when I canceled my membership, I only canceled the re-occurring payment as I was going to continue to use my premium membership until the time was up. Crunchyroll decided since I wasn't going to automatically pay each month they immediately canceled my premium membership status.

Just for that I'm never going to spend another dollar on this website again, since they decided they wanted to kick the door shut behind me.

Everyone should vote with their wallets, and cancel their re-occurring memberships.
