Actually agree with everything that Singetsua said and it mostly applies here as well. Do i download fan subbed anime. Sure i do. But only for those shows that i still can't watch true Crunchyroll over here (One Piece for example or witch craft works etc.). I do have Netflix and i use it but only from my pc streamed to my tv so i can use the US version instead of the dutch one (dutch netflix has almost nothing usefull on it). So you. For those shows that i really like or am interested in and aren't provided by crunchyroll to watch i have to download them. And to be honest. IF they do get available later on BR/DVD release (imported or not doesn't matter) then i do usually buy the shows that i like and enjoy watching.

Do i think it's wrong. Hmm honestly. No. Like some stated previously. Some industries actually prosper from piracy instead of loosing because of it. And also the ever so sweet "localization" issues. As long as digital media (anime, movies for example) aren't shared equally across the globe we more or less are forced to piracy if we'd ever want to watch anything. So until those issues are solved and companies actually make products that are worth the sales value (mostly talking games here) i don't see anything wrong with it.

Edit: This might be a personal moral point and i (we) might be spoiled with it. But downloading on it's own for personal use is not illegal in this country (netherlands) so maybe that's why i think so light of it.

I've pirated music in the past. But the only time I did was when I couldn't find physical copies, and I still looked for them afterwards. Because I like to own my media. Can't say I've downloaded anime/movies though. Same goes for games. I really don't like pirating something if I know I can buy it.

Do you Pirate any form of entertainment be it movies, games, music?

I Pirate movies, music, and Anime i cannot get on crunchyroll, I don't feel like its wrong because if something is good and i like it I buy it such as CD's and DVD's.

Do you think it's wrong to pirate entertainment?

It helps me filter out things that are terrible and over hyped and helps me not spend money on them, Anime on the other hand is some of the most Expensive entertainment so i have trouble affording it in physical form such as the Gurren Lagann Blu-ray or Angle beats, I just don't have that disposable income,
Thankfully crunchyroll makes it easier to see those things!

Do you think your government should invest more time into stopping this?

No i think the Government has many more issues to address such as Economic stability, Improvement of Healthcare and fixing my damn roads!

I wanted to know your thoughts on music/movie piracy so i decided to make this thread.
Now let me ask you some questions.
Do you Pirate any form of entertainment be it movies, games, music?
Do you think it's wrong to pirate entertainment?
Do you think your government should invest more time into stopping this?
Let me know your answers c:

1. I don't pirate anything anymore, though I used to. I limited it exclusively to old games that could not be found at a reasonable cost anymore and game soundtracks that would cost a lot of money to import (or just aren't available anymore in both cases).

2. Yes, I believe pirating is wrong. The people who produce creative content, which includes most (if not all) forms of entertainment, need to eat too. While it might seem harmless from our point of view, to producers it's horrible - the main reason we're running an endless stream of sequels, blockbusters, and superhero movies is because of pirates.

That said, the temptation is almost overwhelming - it's (almost) completely anonymous over the internet and (almost) no one will know. The temptation of piracy really shows what you are in the dark.

3. Well, considering the government already wastes far more money than really necessary, I don't think they should spend time and money on it. Were it a more economically healthy time, maybe they could, although ironically by doing nothing about piracy the economy is just getting worse.

I only use stuff like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Crunchyroll, and FUNimation, all with subscriptions. But if say there is a great Anime series I REALLY REALLY want to see, and it is not on CR or FUNi, mattering how badly I REALLY want to see it, I can be found on the dark side of the internet looking for it.

BUT I will never download it and save it to a USB or Hard Drive or whatever. I will only watch it on some subpar stream site that their best quality is close to crap, or what I remember from my old tv from the 80's.

Personally I say yes, it is wrong. Not only are you making the companies who made the stuff lose money, it is also in a sense why prices can be jacked up so high on Movies, Music, and Anime being released. People will pirate it, so they don't see a reason too go out and buy it. So the companies putting out the material can, will, and need to jack up the prices so they can try to make ends meet from the production of the material.

I would like to say yes they should, but I sadly know our Government and any attempts do so would probably come at more restrictions on the internet for the rest of us. Possibly making the piracy even go out of control. Meanwhile the Government would be getting more involved in our lives while really doing nothing about the piracy itself.

On the other hand, we have something few other states in the world have - decriminalized media piracy. Yep, you heard that right, downloading media (music, video) for personal use is not penalized by law because the ZAMP agency (our equivalent of the US's RIAA/MPAA) added a tax on optical mediums (CD/DVD), flash drives (USB thumb drives, memory cards) and hard drives, which is included in the final price of the product sold for possible piracy use.

That. Is. Amazing.

Fucking Hell...I had this giant post typed up, and I got an error and CR logged me out. Seriously, I call major bullshit. I never log out, this is bullshit man.

Pissed as I am, I will try to shorten this.

I pirate anything by Ubisoft, due to shitty DRM, horrible online practices forced on the user, huge bugs and glitches that are far beyond the minimum for most day-one PC games, and the fact that you HAVE to order from their site to get the full game. I was gonna buy South Park Stick of Truth Ubi, but then you stuck that figure I don't give two shits about in there that probably adds an extra $30. And then like you do with all the games you develop or publish, you separate DLC between different retailers and only offer the full version on your site. And you complain about 90% of the PC market pirating your games. This bullshit is why.

Also, I pirate my music, because I have no choice. I listen to extended video game OST's and Japanese music. Something I don't see any of on Google Play or any site I buy from. To those who might say "buy the soundtrack": does the soundtrack have a thirty minute perfect loop of each song I want? No? Okay then, YouTube and a URL-to-MP3 converter it is.

I will say that I don't pirate my anime. That star is proof. I only download exclusively PC games and music, and if it's a game I want on PC, as long as the name Ubisoft doesn't have anything to do with it, I will legally buy it.

Second question, yes I do think it is wrong. But when it comes to people or groups of people I hate I rarely let morals and ethics get in the way of my decisions. But when there are no other venues for what I desire besides digging on the Internet or going illegal, I am aware of the wrong, but I'll be the first to admit I'm selfish and in the end it only matters that I get what I want. I have strange tastes, and it sucks that a company can't cater to that taste, otherwise I would throw my money at them.

Third question, no. We don't need another SOPA fiasco. And our government wastes more money on bullshit that never comes to fruition, and due to the Streisand Effect, an attempt to enforce a lock on piracy would only make things worse. At this point there's really nothing they can do that won't affect everyone globally. Because our government is incompetent as fuck and our nation has declined since before we impeached Clinton. I would worry about piracy after we're done digging our noses in the affairs of other countries and stirring up shit with superpowers that could wipe our faces of this planet any day if they so desired.

I go legal in all cases possible.

The only exception is if there is no legal way, and even then I generally don't resort to that unless its something I really want to see.

Pirating entertainment is too much work plus I have no interest in sharing or helping other people watch what I've watched.

I used to in my younger days but better distribution methods have render those habits obsolete. I primary use steam, netflix and crunchyroll for my entertainment needs, I don't see the need to cross into grey areas any more.

Do you think it's wrong to pirate entertainment?
My opinion on the matter is irrelevant as long there's a legal precedent, the last thing i want is extortion threats from the likes of RIAA and MPAA.

Do you think your government should invest more time into stopping this?
I would rather pay a fine than pay extornion money to the RIAA and MPAA cartels. Piracy will continue as long the entertainment industry continues to inflate prices and refuses to adopt new distribution technologies.

Q:Do you Pirate any form of entertainment be it movies, games, music?
A:Unfortunately yes, I had to pirate copies of Gintama:Be forever yorozuya and DBZ:Battle Of Gods; Of course when/if copies of the movie make it to america via amazon or best buy, I will purchase them legally.

Q:Do you think it's wrong to pirate entertainment?
A:While id rather get actual versions of the movie, I personally dont think its wrong. Once it makes it to the internet, it is fair game for anyone,

Q:Do you think your government should invest more time into stopping this?
A:No way, if government starts an anti-piracy bureau that will mean more taxes we would have to pay. And I think we there are better things the government could be focusing on(Terrorism, drug trafficking, gang violence, childhood obesity, etc)

Just music, unless I truly support the artist then I support the official release.

In terms of the government paying attention to it: I don't really care.

I've learned by now that the government is just a bunch of stuffed shirts bickering about who has/wants the biggest piece of the pie.

Thus, I have no interest in anything the government does.

On occasion.

Do you think it's wrong to pirate entertainment?

Not in the least.

They already spend plenty on it. Lobbyists for major copyright holders have practically written ever bit of copyright legislation since the 70's.

1.)In the U.S they've gotten a cabinet position for copyright enforcement.

2.)They passed a law that allows them to withhold federal funding from universities if they don't do enough to stop file sharing (what is counts as enough is left undefined). Passed completely on the bogus (they've admitted it) statistics fed to law makers about campus file sharing.

3.)They have a direct line to the Office of the United States Trade Representative in the form of the Special 301 reports which lets them point the finger at other countries etc for what they consider lax IP enforcement. The trade representative will then take this as fact and try to pressure other countries to meet their demands.

4.)They get access to secret trade agreements before they are complete that the public and congress don't even get to see. Laws they can't pass congress work their way into trade agreements which congress is then asked to fast track without debate.

The list goes on and on. I have zero respect for copyright as it stands cause it was written for corporations by corporations while the public
gets the short end of the stick.

Well, the only game I downloaded illegally was GTA: San Andreas but I deleted it as soon as I got bored of it which was a week and a few days. Now, I don't download anything illegally. I buy all my music and movies, I do know this one guy from my church who is very stingy when it comes to sharing with other people and all of his stuff is pirated; from the OS of his computer to the movies and games that he has in his computer shop all the way in the Philippines. Pretty much everything there is pirated.
