Singing

My favorite song cycles in the lieders are Schuberts Die Schone Mullerin, currently learning how to sing Das Wandern,

the pronunciation of the words are extremely difficult since the legato(successful transition between notes) is hard to be

accomplished since the consonance are repeating one after other. Definitely worth it since the last son Des Baches

Wigenlied is the most comforting song I've ever heard. My favorite singer is hands down Dietrich Fischer.

Tell us your favorite song in vocal and favorite vocalist

Sonata

Definitely Domenico Scarlatti kicks some serious butt when it comes to sonatas. Go check him out, op 427.

Concerto

Rachmaninoff concerto no 2 op 18, nuff said.

When it comes to instrument, I prefer viola since it doesn't really have that "ping" like the most people prefer.

Come on guys, let's have some good classical thread, hates, criticism, etc, all are welcome.

I'm not very knowledgeable about classical music, but I do have a few favorites.

When it comes to song cycles, I'm especially ignorant, but there is something deeply beautiful about Schubert's Winterreise. I've got a recording of Der Leiermann sung by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (Gerald Moore, pianist) that is perfectly haunting and soul-holding.

I'm also a bit of a fan of Bernstein's Candide, which of course goes in a completely different direction!

But mostly I like stuff without vocals, and my tastes range. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 has been a favorite ever since I heard it years and years ago. Almost anything by Philip Glass will appeal, and in more contemporary performers and work, my favorites are Brooklyn Rider (particularly their album Dominant Curve), and Gabriel Prokofiev's Concerto for Turntables

Yes, Dietrich has a incredible amount of smoothness to his tone(partially because he was a heavy smoker?)
