Hey everybody,

So The Wind Rises is coming out pretty soon, which is awesome. Of course it's not all good news, seeing as this is his final feature film. Having seen it during its oscar run in LA I'm happy to say that it's definitely a worthy finale to an amazing career, but even so I'm beyond sad that Miyazaki's particular brand of magic will never again be seen on the big-screen. Personally his movies have had an enormous impact on me, and are a significant part of the reason I chose to become a film major.

But enough about me- as a way of celebrating his legacy, I thought I'd ask all of you wonderful people on crunchyroll what your personal favorite Miyazaki film is and why. I for one will always love Castle in the Sky the most, probably because it was the first one I saw- I love its epic scope, beautiful (and endless) musical score, and of course the artistry, although that last one is definitely not limited to Castle in the Sky alone.

So what's your favorite Miyazaki film and why?

Princess Mononoke for me. A great and beautiful film in its own, it was my first Miyazaki film so it gets major boosts via nostalgia.

I also really have a thing for wolves, so...yeah....

My favorite is My Neighbor Totoro, as it was the first Miyazaki film as well as the first anime I ever saw. I saw it back in the nineties on VHS, and I still have it haha. I really like Princess Mononoke as well, that one would be a close second for me.

I bet most people's answers in this thread will come with them also saying its the first one they ever saw, as that seems to be a trend when it comes to favorite Miyazaki films, for whatever reason.

Whisper of the Heart, with Howl's Moving Castle close behind

I liked that Whisper of the Heart had a musical aspect to it. That's something I always appreciate.
