Anime with annoying teenagers as main cast needs to stop.

I think the problem is that adults really don't have as much freedom as kids and college students in Japan. This makes creating slice-of-life anime hard, and people seem to like their fantasy and drama to have a good amount of slice of life elements. Like in the 90s, you had adult characters, but it was often pure fantasy or linked to their jobs. Teenagers are just easier to plot if you need flexibility.

Their are plenty of shows that feature an older cast of characters you obviously aren't looking very hard. Oddly enough your post makes you sound like a bickering child yourself.

They don't sell live-sized Tier Harribel sex dolls because the world-wide porn industry would inflate.

I think some characters like her and Ryuko Matoi were designed just to dare cosplayers to wear them... but of course they always do... LOL

Since everything is about teenagers kicking ass or having love troubles its getting boring...

Why cant we have Adults for once

i cant even remember a good anime where adults are the main cast...

Why are all the anime based up on annoying flat chested teenagers with their stupid problems!!!!

And yes Hatsune Miku is annoying to!

heck i even like grandma's and grandpa's kicking ass just stop it with them stupid teenagers -.-

Anime is meant for a pre-teen, teen market. We can talk about what great art it is all we like but the bulk of tv anime is intended to rope in middle and high schoolers after school

They have to have characters these kids can relate to (it certainly won't be people they think of as parents or teachers)

There has to be some element of the environment they can relate to. How many teenagers do you know who have any life experience outside home, school, and the occasional excursion. (and don't tell me about that ONE globeTrotter/Eagle Scout/Teenage Pop Star you know out of all the other student who actually have time to watch anime)

so... while I agree it would be nice to see a sane grownup in anime who wasn't a 'boring old person' good luck changing that.

Actually most of the shows on Crunchryoll air after midnight. Exceptions would be Space Brothers, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, Toriko, but most of the high school shows are NOT actually after-school shows at all and are in fact aimed at people a bit older than most middle school and high schoolers.

Hrmm... didn't know that. so.. are kids staying up late or are grown ups pining for their halcyon youth? I've been told the high school is really rough and stressful in Japan with constant pressure from grade school on to do well at exams and get into prestigious schools. And that hitting university meant you could indulge in hobbies and look for love. your... 'Golden Time' as it were.

anyway I think the critical point still stands. anime is targeted at people 30+ years younger than me. Wishing to see a few cougars take center stage is a pipe dream.

Someone else has listed plenty of animes. Trigun, Gintama, Cowboy Bebop, Toriko. I really can't remember any with a main character who is over 30 though.

Sometimes it doesn't matter if the character is a child : Detective Conan (More about solving crimes than any actual drama, although it exists),
Fullmetal Alchemist (I can't see this being much better even if the main character was an adult), One Piece (The characters are more cartoon characters than they are people).

I do know what you are getting at though, you want less harem shows / romcom shows. The problem with that is, every season stations have timeslots where they would like to air anime. Original Animes are a bit of a gamble by an Animation company, you are hoping to gain a crap load of interest with a new IP. However, if you make an anime based on an existing source material, you automatically have a fan-base that will follow it. The problem is, the majority of these source materials are written by otaku for otaku, and are as such bought by otaku. Otaku like teenage girls, I think nothing else needs to be said.

Oh, I would settle with just the top part of her head.

I hate her eyes so much, mmm.

But yeah, it's obvious whom anime is primarily directed at. It's unfortunate, but whatever... we can't always get everything we want. I suppose that's one of the things about becoming an adult is we've come to accept that, and so our standards are set much lower.

try watching Honey and Clover (college age!) or dabbing in Josei shows. They typically have more realistic characterizations and often use non-High School aged protagonists.

EDIT: A few more I can think of that don't use HS aged protagonists:

PlanetES, Baccano!, Stein's;gate, The Big O, GitS, Monster, Ergo Proxy, Arakawa, Hellsing, Wandering Son (if younger counts), Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Rec, Texhnolyze, Paranoia Agent, Polar Bear Cafe (do animals count?)

Some kids staying up late but a lot of slightly older, though still young people who are pining for their youth which was a fairly recent thing for them. 18-30 is the usual demographic for anime buying otaku who have enough money to pay for the high price of anime discs.

There are some good cougar characters but they are usually there just for laughs.

Immortality for the most part changes age into a meaningless number. The Queen Vampire from dance in the Vampire Bund is still a loli so really who cares about that number (as long as it's over 18)

Most middle aged people want to be able to see SOMETHING of themselves or people they know in a character to which they wish to relate.

So I would say NO.

Your better off selling me on a teenager, I can remember being one of those.
