Fate Zero bud, try that (if you already haven't, chances are you have but it's worth mentioning on the slight chance you haven't)

The high school ones are there for demand, I don't see why they should be stopped if their are people out there that like them!

I don't like chocolate that doesn't mean I want it discontinued as a product!

This is the reason why I'm leaving CR soon...too much anime with little kids and teens, mediocre stories and characters.

In the 90s I used to watch great anime, most of them with adult characters or anime with realistic teen characters (since most teen characters in anime don't act their age).

The anime Major is one huge exception. We see the main characters in their childhood, teens and adulthood. It is a great anime and the only one that made me lose my sleep just to keep watching the episodes (I watched 3 seasons in a row!!!). I haven't felt that way since many years ago, now I can hardly watch ONE single episode before getting bored and dropping the anime.

I also remember watching Rurouni kenshin, Gungrave, Cowboy bebop, Hellsing, Legend of Basara, Berserk, Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Wolf's rain, Mushishi, X, Black Lagoon etc which I loved...I don't know if the reason why i hate anime nowadays is because I grew up watching mature anime with serious storylines and characters that behaved like adults or I am just getting old that almost everything i watch in this generation disgusts me.

There are plenty of shows with teenagers as the cast that I enjoy, but I can see the point the person is trying to make, to an extent. I hardly drop anime series, pretty much ever. Even so there are more series that I'm reluctant to start due to really ditzy teenagers as major characters.

It is more likely you are getting jaded by ready exposure to so much more anime than in the past.

Except for LotGH, all of these are mainstream anime that saw a home video release and in many cases a TV broadcast. That meant they had already gone through a curation process. By contrast, CR's mission is to get as much of the anime that airs in Japan each season as possible, which means you get the good and the bad, and for most people, the majority of any mass media is going to be "bad".

Not really, I was exposed to more anime in the past than today, the difference is that most storylines and characters of today don't appeal to me. Moribito was a very enjoyable anime and it is from CR...would love to see more anime like that one.

Edt: My bad, Moribito is not in CR ( I watched it at another place)....ok, an anime from CR I really liked was House of five leaves....and Gintama.

You're saying in the past you were exposed to more than approximately 120 anime per year?

As for Moribito, keep in mind it falls into the same category as the previous titles you mentioned: It was released on home video (by Media Blasters) and aired on TV (Cartoon Network).

If you don't like most of today's anime then you are watching too much anime. The dark stuff doesn't sell like it used to. The world changed, particularly in Japan. Supply and demand and all that.

Whenever I hear someone go off about how all the anime today sucks I give them the same advice. Take a break. People change. Maybe it's not your thing anymore. When you start insulting other people who like the things you used to like, it's a sure sign it's time to move on. Maybe you'll come back someday. Maybe you'll realize that things aren't as bad as they seem after a little time away. Maybe you'll just be happier doing something else. Whatever, just quit your bitchin' and get off my lawn. Damn kids.

Anime with Adult Characters:
AD Police
Armored Trooper Votoms
Arpeggio of Blue Steel
Bubblegum Crisis/Crash
Cowboy Bebop
Dominion Tank Police
Devil is a Part-Timer
Ghost in the Shell (Both Seasons+ Movies)
Golden Time
I Couldn't Become a Hero...
Log Horizon
Maoyu
Martian Successor Nadesico
Macross Plus
Maison Ikokku
Mobile Police Patlabor (Multiple Seasons + Movies)
Ninja Scroll
Phantom Quest Corp
Servant x Service
Trigun
Wings of Honneamise
You're Under Arrest

Edit: I can't help but chuckle when I see these good old days conversations are started by people half my age with maybe an eight of my life experience.

What's the problem with being released on home video and aired on tv? btw, Berserk has never been aired on tv (at least in USA) or Legend of Basara...2 of my favorite animes. I'm just saying that I used to watch much more anime before (like everyday and I never dropped any) than today. I don't search for anime nowadays because when I do, most of them are dropped. Right now I'm watching just one anime and the reason why I'm still here but still, that anime is nothing compared to the others. Just like I said...don't know if I'm getting old that anime doesn't pick up my interest anymore or maybe I should go look for anime at other places....CR is obviously too much into magical girls, shoujo, ecchi (not that they are bad, just not my cup of tea) so maybe, the problem is not anime but the place I go to.

My point was the same as before; anime that makes it to home video and especially to TV has gone through a filtering process. It doesn't always mean the anime is "good", but it is likely to result in higher average quality than an unfiltered flow from Japan.

Frankly, given the overwhelming large percentage of anime each season CR gets now, you're not going to find much other new anime elsewhere (at least assuming you are in the US or Canada, which I take it you are), except a few titles at Funimation.

I'll wager the real problem is the same one I see with many younger people. When you are new to anime, you have a rich catalog to experience, plus the concepts in each story are more new to you. The titles you mentioned before span about a decade (and more if you include LotGH, although there is a bit of bias toward around 1998). As you exhaust the desirable titles in that catalog, you are left with what comes out each season, and as you would likely find was also true in the past, few titles tickle your fancy and even those that do aren't going to seem as novel as before.

Well, there are anime out there with adult leads, but those tend to be few and far between for reasons already gone over: anime is, despite what Western otaku think, mostly aimed at children even in Japan, and in the interest of making the protagonists relate-able they will (more often than not) make the lead characters children / teenagers (teenagers being the most common as it can draw in the largest crowd - preteens to young adults).

Another key reason is because teenagers are still figuring out what to do with themselves, while adults are generally expected to know what they're going to do with their lives. Since that's true, teenagers are more interesting to write for - they have to balance school, friendships, relationships, and work. Respectable adults need only balance friendships (which are on the backburner), relationships, and work - there's just more tension to exploit from teenagers.

I'm getting tired of seeing the middle-school/high-school setting, but as long as the series itself is enjoyable I generally don't have a problem with teenage MCs.

More adult MCs would be very nice, though.
